Who You Are:

What You Will Do:
As an R&D Engineer, you will work closely with Sperra’s Senior R&D Engineer, contributing to research and development in 3D concrete printing technology. You will be responsible for performing experiments, analyzing data, and assisting in the design and testing of new systems for large-scale additive manufacturing at our Rochester, NY facility.
 
Primary responsibilities:
  • Conduct research and development in 3D concrete printing under the guidance of the Senior R&D Engineer
  • Design and prototype components for 3D printing systems and manufacturing processes
  • Perform testing and analysis of printed materials and structures
  • Assist in optimizing materials, formulations, and processes for large-scale concrete printing
  • Document research findings, test results, and design iterations
  • Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot technical challenges and improve system performance
  • Maintain and operate lab equipment, ensuring safety protocols and standards are met
  • Contribute to reports and presentations for internal teams and external partners
  • Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related field 
  • Hands-on experience with 3D printing, additive manufacturing, or materials testing
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Strong mechanical design, prototyping, and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with materials science, particularly concrete or similar construction materials
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and creativity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic research environment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
 
Preferred:
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Materials Science, or related field 
  • Knowledge of large-scale additive manufacturing or concrete construction technologies
  • Experience with mechanical testing and analysis tools
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS)
