ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Aspen Institute is looking for a Marketing Cloud Administrator who will develop and maintain our Marketing Cloud instance, as well as its integration with Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud.
The person in this role will serve as the primary administrator for Marketing Cloud for the Aspen Institute. Working as part of a high-performing and collaborative team as Aspen migrates multiple email marketing platforms to Marketing Cloud and builds out a Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud instance, this role will be essential to email platform adoption by ensuring data is synced with Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud and available for use, and driving innovation in the areas of integrated, multi-channel communication flows. Secondarily, the Marketing Cloud Administrator will assist with general Salesforce administration as needed.
This role reports directly to the Director, Data & CRM. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $120,000. This position is located at the Aspen Institute’s Washington, D.C. office and is expected to work from the office at least 40% of the time.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Marketing Cloud Administrator is primarily responsible for managing and optimizing the Salesforce Marketing Cloud environment. You will partner with the internal Salesforce Admin team and our Salesforce implementation partner to design a solution that ensures maximum utilization of the Marketing Cloud platform at the Aspen Institute and achieves the Institute’s engagement goals. You will also assist with general Salesforce administration when needed.
- Work with our Salesforce implementation partner to configure, manage, and support the Marketing Cloud environment including, but not limited to, journeys, data extensions, users, user roles, connectors, business units, and integrations.
- Oversee maturation of the Marketing Cloud platform: Continuously improve and fine-tune the platform to meet the Institute’s specific needs. This includes configuring data models, managing Salesforce Marketing Cloud Connector and data extensions, building and updating journeys, and managing automations, business units, and third-party integrations.
- Oversee platform maintenance and updates: Maintain a high awareness of trends and best practices in digital marketing and the Salesforce ecosystem, including Nonprofit Cloud and Marketing Cloud enhancements and releases. Lead integration of changes, update business processes, and ensure users are informed of updates. Proactively research and make recommendations to optimize marketing activities through new features.
- Oversee Marketing Cloud data management: Work with colleagues to support data hygiene, segmentation, and personalization within Marketing Cloud. Ensure exclusions and constituent preferences are being handled appropriately across business units. Recommend strategies that leverage data to drive targeted communications.
- Oversee email marketing compliance: Understand industry best practices, email regulations, and compliance measures related to email development and delivery, including CAN-SPAM and other relevant email marketing regulations. Develop knowledge of FCC SMS/MMS regulations, guidelines, and policies. Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to email best practices and compliance standards. Support and maintain preference center and Marketing Cloud data usage rules to ensure compliance with GDPR, CPA, and other privacy regulations.
- Oversee deliverability: monitor deliverability reports and make appropriate configuration changes, segmentation recommendations, etc. to support reliable deliverability across systems, coordinating with Marketing Cloud support as needed.
- Participate in support, training and consultation: Provide guidance to individual colleagues and teams on best practices, features, and capabilities of Marketing Cloud. Monitor usage to identify when established business processes or policies are not being followed. Work with the training team to ensure that users are employing best practices and assist with course corrections where necessary.
- Perform Salesforce/Nonprofit Cloud administration: When needed, provide system administrator support in Salesforce/Nonprofit Cloud. This may include flow/process configuration, field adjustments, report/dashboard building, role/permissions configuration, or other similar tasks.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO THRIVE
- 5+ years of relevant experience and an Undergraduate degree or higher in marketing or computer science, or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
- Salesforce Marketing Cloud Certifications: Salesforce Marketing Cloud Administrator and Email Specialist certifications required, and Developer certification preferred.
- Salesforce Administrator Certification. Nonprofit Cloud Consultant preferred.
- Undergraduate degree or higher in marketing or computer science, or equivalent combination of education, certifications, and experience.
- Technical expertise with audience segmentation, data models, and data extensions.
- Familiarity with data models, Salesforce integration, and programming languages including SQL, HTML/CSS, and AMP script. Knowledge of Java and/or Apex, SOQL, SSJS, and JavaScript is beneficial but not required.
- Excellent communication skills to support interacting with a broad array of internal stakeholders, handling objections, and presenting complex topics in a simplified manner.
Preferred
- Nonprofit industry experience; in-house experience at a large, federated organization with multiple programs, issue areas, or campaigns a plus.
- Experience with email marketing and campaign automation.
- Experience with SFMC Journey Builder, Email Studio, Contact Builder, Interaction Studio, Business Units, and using Salesforce Data Extensions.
