About the role

Our Sustainability Analyst will support in the ongoing development of Altruistiq’s calculation engine and emission factor database, which are fundamental to how we measure our customer’s sustainability impact. This role combines excellent analytical capabilities, sustainability expertise, and strong people skills to communicate these complex concepts across teams.

You’ll play a vital role in our Sustainability Insights function, focusing on improving our emissions data, and shaping our calculation features through research projects in close collaboration with our Product and Engineering functions.

Candidates must have excellent written and spoken English skills, as the primary language of communication within the company is English

In this role, you will:

  • Lead research projects to identify and evaluate new datasources for emission factors, ensuring high quality data is used in the emission calculations.
  • Contribute to research projects into developing the Calculation Engine, such as introducing new calculation methodologies and scoping product features to improve the user experience.
  • Lead processes to import new emissions data into our Emission Factor Database.
  • Conduct research into new carbon accounting standards, such as the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Land Removals Guidance, to develop briefing notes and present findings internally.
  • Be a valued member of the Sustainability Insights team, presenting at knowledge sharing sessions, contributing to problem-solving workshops, and helping the wider team with queries on emission factors and calculations.

Who we're looking for:

This role is ideal for someone with strong data skills and a passion for sustainability. This is an early career role suitable for someone with 2-3 years professional experience working with sustainability data.

We believe the successful candidate will demonstrate the following skills:

Technical expertise

  • Can demonstrate proficiency in using data tools for data management and analysis (e.g. MS Excel, Google Sheets, Alteryx, Metabase, Tableau). Ideally this would include knowledge of coding languages for data analysis (e.g. Python, R).
  • Track record of working with and analysing sustainability data, such as Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs) or Emission Factors (EF). For instance, being able to calculate GWP-100 impacts and analyse emission changes over time.
  • Have a relevant degree or experience relating to sustainability, as well as a foundational understanding of how to calculate Greenhouse Gas emissions (Scope 1, 2 and 3, LCA) aligned to the GHG Protocol/ISO Standards.

Communication skills

  • Strong ability to summarise and present complex sustainability topics clearly. Can both write transparent technical documentation regarding data and calculation methodology, and introduce complex topics to non-sustainability audiences.

Entrepreneurial spirit

  • A natural "go getter", keen to identify opportunities and trial solutions to improve our processes or customer experience. Gives examples of ability to learn fast and on-the go, reflecting the often unstructured environment of a fast growing startup.
  • Process-driven, able to follow and refine clear processes with minimal supervision.

Our benefits include:

  • Equity, we believe our team should all have a stake in the company we're building.
  • A supportive culture to help you learn and develop into a better version of yourself, including a learning & development budget and policy.
  • Competitive compensation package.
  • Private health and dental insurance for you and your partner/family.
  • Generous pension contribution.
  • Unlimited holiday policy.
  • Flexible working, remote-first, with allowance to join a shared working space where you live.
  • Health & wellness budget, cycle scheme.
  • Team offsites, and annual events to spend time together as a team.
  • Work in a diverse, feedback-driven organisation, decentralised decision making enabling everyone to weigh in, offering lots of freedom, impact as well as responsibility.

At Altruistiq we believe a diverse team is a better team.
