Hi! We're Forerunner.

We believe that adaptation is a necessity, not a luxury, and communities deserve access to powerful software that helps them plan for the future. The challenge of climate change is complex – it implicates how governments plan, manage capital, and communicate to stakeholders. Forerunner helps government agencies do these things better by empowering them to access, understand, and mobilize local-level flood risk data at scale. Our software is built to be easy-to-use, so that the planners and floodplain managers preparing for our future can focus on the important stuff.

About you:

We're looking for an energetic Sales Manager to join our team. As a new addition, you will help us spread the word about Forerunner and engage our customers in conversations about how software can help to transform their data and workflows.

What you need to succeed:

  • First line management: You have 2+ years experience first-line managing high-performing SaaS sales teams. You know how to support sales people to succeed.
  • Earned your stripes: You have 5+ years of sales quota carrying experience selling software-led products. You have a proven ability to consistently hit targets as the leader of a sales team.
    • Experience selling to the Public Sector is preferred but not required.
  • Coaching and strategic insight: You're willing and able to support team members with critical deals by reflecting, coaching and strategizing with individual contributors.
  • Comfort with ambiguity: We're always learning, and hope you will be too. We are looking for someone who can be nimble in prioritizing work and isn't shy in taking on additional responsibility.
  • Forecasting capability: You can accurately forecast sales results and build executive trust in owning a team’s quota.
  • Competent communication: You are an excellent communicator with great presentation skills. You can effectively articulate and leverage the Forerunner value proposition to win the trust of customers and your team.

About the position:

As a Sales Manager you will drive Forerunner's future growth engine by building the skills of our Account Executives - showing the team how to win prospective clients and turning them into happy Forerunner users.

You will:

  • Manage and develop a dynamic team of Account Executives: We’re proud to have an inspiring, mission-aligned team and we’ll look to you to create a sales culture that is positive, motivating, and results driven. As we grow, you’ll partner with the Director of Sales to build high-performing individuals and work to provide them with actionable performance feedback. In your day-to-day, you’ll act as an escalation point for closing challenging deals and provide ongoing deal support to team members.
    • Occasional travel for meetings and conferences will be required.
  • Support the team to close new deals: We are looking for someone with a player/coach mentality. You'll support your team's account list, help them reach their quotas and develop plans for winning and expanding business with our government customers.
  • Articulate the value of Forerunner: You’ll dazzle with demos and domain knowledge in front of our most high value prospects on a weekly basis.
  • Prioritize the sales pipeline to align with business goals: As a small startup we expect everyone to be adept at shifting priorities to meet changing goals.
  • Develop scalable sales strategies: As an early member of our sales team, your contribution will be crucial in setting our sales team up for ongoing success.
  • Contribute to product strategy: Help us drive product strategy by engaging with Product and Engineering teams based on your learnings in the field.

Our team has a lot to offer.

Forerunner is an early stage company with an interdisciplinary team. We are motivated by seemingly intractable problems and work hard to support one another.

  • We're mission-driven. Our mission orients our business strategy and pushes us to work with a sense of urgency. We’re in the weeds -- our entire team spends time engaging with our partners in the field to better understand the real-world problems they face.
  • We're a small team. As a member of our growing team, you will quickly become an invaluable part of our organization and have a meaningful impact on our business and technical direction. We welcome unique perspectives and backgrounds. Your opinion matters and we hope you'll share it.
  • We're a remote-first organization, with offices in NYC, San Francisco and Portland, ME. Many members of our team work remotely, but we have small offices in NYC, San Francisco and Portland, ME. We offer schedule flexibility for all of our employees and ask for accountability in return.
  • We want you to be happy and healthy. Forerunner offers competitive compensation, health/vision/dental coverage, and commuter benefits. We also have a quarterly wellness reimbursement so that you can have flexibility in defining what “health” means to you.

The base pay for this position is $100,000-$120,000. Base salary is one component of Forerunner's total rewards philosophy. Other components may include commission, equity, professional development allowance, and more. This posting may span more than one career level. Compensation is determined based on a variety of factors, including an individual’s skills, experience, qualifications, and working location.

We look forward to meeting you. To apply or ask questions, shoot us a message at jobs@withforerunner.com.
