Overview

Serves as the functional lead of a market segment or portfolio of projects that is in line with VEIC’s strategic plan. Responsible for the successful execution of project work and the attainment of business development goals within a consulting Business Area. Leads large and high-profile projects, and/or a portfolio of projects representing a practice area within a Business Area. Serves as strategic lead, senior advisor and mentor (providing quality assurance) for projects managed by other staff.  Both contributes work and provides direction on work of other staff on a variety of projects that analyze energy efficiency, renewable energy, and / or clean transportation markets, policies, and programs for clients across the country and internationally. Responsible for developing strategy (in collaboration with Business Area and Division leadership), executing business development activities, and achieving business development results in a practice area.

 

Develops strategic solutions for projects and develops interest and mentors staff in subject

matter areas that are identified as growth areas for VEIC. Required to make significant contributions to business development and acquisition of new work. Maintains and strengthens internal and external partner relationships. Routinely represents VEIC and the Energy Services Division at regional and national forums as a subject matter expert and market leader in an area of expertise.

 

Location:

This is a remote position, and the ideal candidate will be located in the states where VEIC conducts business: CA, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MA, MD, ME, MI, MT, NJ, NY, PA, OH, RI, VA, VT, AND WI. Please note that while we welcome applicants from many areas, we do not currently hire in the following parts of New York: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island. Compensation:

At VEIC, we are committed to pay transparency. The starting pay range for this position will be between $125,000- 150,000 annually. Based on market data, pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, education, experience, and location. Please discuss your intended work location with the recruiter for more information. The total compensation package for this position also includes a full range of medical benefits, 403(b) eligibility with match, Combined Time Off (CTO), Care and Concern leave, Parental leave, wellbeing benefit, a community service day, and eight paid holidays that are effective as of your first day of employment.

Responsibilities

 

  • Provides input to and supports management of Business Areas and/or high-profile projects that use expert knowledge in area of expertise. These projects promote cutting-edge energy projects on behalf of clients throughout the country and internationally. This may include:
  • Setting project strategic direction
  • Developing a solution framework that meets project goals and objectives and streamlines the overall process
  • Developing and managing networks of external industry relationships
  • Managing on-going client relationships
  • Facilitating meetings of external working groups
  • Managing and mentoring the work of other VEIC staff
  • Managing the work and quality of subcontractors
  • Tracking and management of project budgets
  • Designs, reviews, and/or critiques energy efficiency, renewable energy, and clean transportation programs and policies.
  • Drafts and defends expert witness testimony.
  • Supports Energy Services Division staff by acting as senior project advisor, providing mentoring, and quality assurance for a variety of projects.
  • Significantly contributes to strategic plan for Business Area in coordination with other Business Areas and Division strategic plan.
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting financial outcomes for portfolio of projects.
  • Assists in hiring and recruiting high-quality staff.
  • Is responsible for business development and the acquisition of new work in a Business Area, particularly through development and maintenance of relationships with clients and business partners.
  • Recommends to Business Area lead what new work to accept/pursue in a Business Area.
  • Develops and provides regular management and tracking reports to Business Area lead with recommended actions to ensure that contractual requirements are met, and contributes to communications with VEIC leadership concerning progress toward strategic objectives.
  • Routinely represents VEIC and the Energy Services Division at national and international forums, conferences, and committees.
  • Assists Business Area lead and Director in promoting the coordination of activities with other divisions within VEIC as is necessary to accomplish organizational goals and objectives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision, goals and values of VEIC.
  • Bachelor’s degree plus ten or more years of relevant professional experience, including managing projects & client relationships, or a similar combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills were acquired.
  • Seven or more years of experience within the efficiency, renewable energy or clean transportation field(s) preferred.  Advanced degree in relevant field preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in “big-picture” thinking and strategic development.
  • Demonstrated high level of creativity and innovation in approach to work.
  • Demonstrated ability and extensive experience in managing all aspects of large, complex projects – including client interaction, maintaining project budgets, and overseeing all aspects of project work.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including comfort with persuasive communications.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Extensive professional connections within the energy efficiency, renewable energy and/or clean transportation industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop (and acquire funding for) new consulting projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively advise, mentor, and delegate to staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of assignments simultaneously, address competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven ability to be organized, detail-oriented, and accurate.
  • Ability to facilitate group discussions and meetings.
  • Superior knowledge of the characteristics of key efficiency, renewable energy, and/or clean transportation markets and measures.
  • Superior knowledge of good efficiency, renewable, and/or clean transportation program designs.
  • Facility with techniques of economic analysis.
  • Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
