The Southern Environmental Law Center is hiring for a new Legal Administrative Assistant in our Atlanta, GA office. This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly successful, nationally recognized organization that is effectively addressing some of the most pressing and challenging environmental issues throughout the South and the nation. The Legal Administrative Assistant will be a key partner for three Georgia Energy Attorneys, providing important legal and administrative support. SELC’s Legal Administrative Assistants play a vital role in sustaining the effectiveness of our program work.
SELC has a hybrid work model that offers employees the flexibility to work remotely up to two days per week. This is a full-time, non-exempt position and employees must reside in our region. SELC will provide relocation reimbursement for those relocating for an SELC position.
Provides legal and administrative support to SELC attorneys, including submitting court filings in Administrative, State and Federal Courts as well as the Georgia Public Service Commission and other state regulatory bodies, submitting comment letters, researching local court rules, calendaring deadlines, proofreading and editing written materials, and other legal support tasks.
Conducts substantial factual research utilizing a variety of resources including internal records, newspaper and media sources, scientific reports, government websites, and social media. Analyzes and summarizes scientific research in support of SELC’s legislative and regulatory agency work.
Assists with the logistical and evidentiary preparations for judicial and administrative proceedings (includes depositions, mediations, hearings and trials).
Maintains digital and physical files including pleadings, transcripts, memos, and correspondence.
Provides general administrative support including scheduling meetings, booking travel, and submitting invoices and expenses.
Assists with PowerPoint presentations for both internal and external presentations
Participates in and takes notes during conference calls and meetings as needed. Communicates regularly with partner groups and may occasionally represent SELC in various stakeholder meetings.
Assists in the collection and review of documents and records obtained through public records, including authoring summaries or memoranda.
Assists with expert retainer agreements and tracking invoices, as well as quarterly budget reporting.
Assists fellow legal assistants and administrative staff with daily tasks in a collaborative environment.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent mix of education and experience.

Proficiency with PCs and Microsoft Office applications, including editing and working with PDFs in Adobe, formatting and formulas in Excel spreadsheets, advanced word processing skills in Word, and creating professional Power Point presentations.
Demonstrated organizational and administrative skills.

At least two years of legal assistant or paralegal experience.
Environmental and/or legal research experience and familiarity with legal citations. Or willingness/eagerness to learn.
Knowledge of Georgia energy laws/policies is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits:
SELC offers salaries competitive with other leading environmental nonprofits nationally and provides an excellent benefits package. The starting salary range for this position is $48,000 – $60,000, commensurate with experience. For more details about our benefits package, please visit our Careers page.
SELC is a PSLF (Public Service Loan Forgiveness) eligible employer.
SELC will also provide relocation reimbursement for those relocating for an SELC position, up to a specific dollar amount and contingent on the move being at least 50 miles from the current primary address.
