Position Description:
The Director of Commercial Development is primarily responsible for collaborating with the Executive Vice President of Business Development and other sales professionals to provide administrative direction for the Business Development Group. This pivotal role drives business growth, manages strategic initiatives, and delivers innovative sales processes in a rapidly evolving energy market. The Director will provide day-to-day leadership to the business development team, overseeing team performance and managing key aspects of commercial operations, including administrative processes, reporting, and bid strategy. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in the energy industry, particularly infrastructure development, specifically around contracts, and possess exceptional commercial acumen. Major Job Responsibilities:
Team Leadership and Management
- Directly manage sales team members, providing mentorship, support, and objective and key result (OKRs) feedback to drive individual and team success
- Act as a critical liaison between the executive leadership and the sales team, facilitating clear communication of goals, priorities, and operational updates
- Foster a collaborative and motivated team culture, encouraging professional growth and development
Sales Reporting and Insights
- Oversee the preparation and delivery of comprehensive sales reports using Salesforce, offering analysis on sales metrics, pipeline progression, and team performance
- Conduct regular meetings with the sales team to review progress on sales targets, new leads, and closed deals, and to strategize on upcoming opportunities
- Ensure data integrity and up-to-date information in Salesforce, enabling accurate tracking and reporting on sales activities
Strategic Bid Support
- Provide strategic support to the sales team in the bid process by contributing to bid strategy, assessing market positioning, and analyzing competitor insights
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional partners to compile and refine information needed for bid submissions, ensuring alignment with company goals and customer needs
- Ensure internal best practices are being upheld when developing contracts with customers
· Process Optimization and Operational Excellence
- Continuously evaluate and enhance administrative and sales processes to improve team efficiency and streamline workflows
- Develop and document standardized processes and guidelines for sales operations, ensuring best practices are consistently followed
- Support the onboarding and training of new sales team members, providing access to resources, tools, and best practices necessary for their success
Position Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in a senior administrative, sales operations, or sales management role
- Bachelor’s degree with a major in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field is required
- Master’s degree in business administration or related fields preferred
- Proficiency in Salesforce and Microsoft Office Suite, emphasizing reporting and data analysisProven leadership skills with experience managing sales professionals
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management abilities
- Experience with managing commercial processes from inception to finished contract
- Minimum of 6 years of experience managing projects with inputs from multidisciplinary teams and delivering integrated strategic and commercially sensitive products (bids, business plan proposals, etc.) within battery storage and/or renewables space
- Working knowledge of project controls and project management requirements is preferred, including planning, scheduling, resourcing, budgeting, cost control, cost estimation, risk management and information management
