Background
The Southeast Asia (SE) Energy Program, working within the Global South umbrella program, brings experience gained from engagements with regional governments, utilities, corporates, financial institutions, project developers, technology companies, and industry experts to solve the toughest energy challenges. RMI is currently working with select country partners in SE Asia to an energy transition that supports development goals, transitions away from fossil fuels and enables a dramatic increase in access to affordable renewable energy and energy efficiency that will bring benefits to all.
The SE Asia Energy program is focused on four complementary components: 1) electric utility transition and innovation; 2) clean energy project development; 3) transmission grid planning and market integration; and 4) e-Mobility and breakthrough technology. RMI is currently, delivering engagements across these four areas in Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
RMI is seeking a Philippine Country Lead, Senior Associate reporting to the SE Asia Regional Director and the Portfolio Manager to lead the program implementation in the Philippines.

Position Overview
RMI is seeking an experienced and motivated Philippine Country Lead, Senior Associate to drive our on-the-ground activities in the Philippines. The role will focus on stakeholder engagement and business development to implement clean power solutions that help to address climate challenges while improving the supply of reliable and affordable electricity.
The Philippine Country Lead, Senior Associate will firmly establish the organization as an independent thought and implementation leader by driving energy transitions from traditional and often polluting and expensive energy infrastructure to clean, affordable, and resilient energy resources.
The ideal candidate will need to be based in the Philippines, preferably in Metro Manila. The Philippine Country Lead, Senior Associate will serve as RMI’s primary representative to stakeholders in the Philippines, including leaders from across government, development partners, and the private sector. They will also coordinate different programs and initiatives internally within RMI cross-team, support project work across the Philippines, including by providing technical expertise, content development, share learning, coordinate and collaborate, clearly communicate in country development to various stakeholders, and potentially management of small teams. The Philippine Country Lead, Senior Associate may also play a role in pursuing funding, through philanthropic, government, and collaboration revenue.

Your key job responsibilities as a Senior Associate – PH Country Lead primarily include:
Build and manage relationships with key stakeholders in the Philippines.
Contribute to project execution and coordination.
Support conversations with prospective and existing donors and funders.
Lead the organization of workshops, stakeholder meetings, and other events.
Synthesize research and lessons learned to influence key stakeholders.
Collaborate with the regional director, portfolio manager, program managers and across all levels of RMI SE Asia team to support project selection and planning, and to develop the organization’s expertise and reputation in energy systems in the Philippines.
Build RMI’s network and identify new projects, and shape and deliver collaborative efforts with governments, development partners, and the private sector the Philippines.
Contribute to RMI’s energy expertise through thought leadership, developing innovative approaches for holistic energy system development such as new business models for energy and energy service providers, and respectfully challenge current approaches.
Identify and shape specific program initiatives and projects, with internal RMI team and other senior professionals, focusing on topics such as national-level energy planning, solar and battery system cost reduction, energy efficiency for increased access, and targeted capacity building.
Demonstrate organizational leadership, helping set a culture of impact, accountability, and entrepreneurship.
Stay abreast of the developments in global, regional (SE Asia) and national approaches to clean energy transition.
Travel up to 35% of the time, including occasional travel within Philippines and Southeast Asia region, as well as to RMI’s offices in the United States on an annual basis.

Minimum Qualifications:
An undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in an applicable field such as science, engineering, business, policy, economics, or other relevant field.
At least 4 years of energy transition work experience with an emphasis on Philippine power/energy efficiency/clean technology sectors.
Established network in the Philippines energy sector, particularly with senior stakeholders in government, private and development sector.
Excellent interpersonal communication abilities in written, verbal, and presentation forms, demonstrating humble confidence.
Independent work style, comfortable self-managing multiple priorities and workstreams concurrently, with the ability to drive projects forward despite ambiguity.
Proven track-record of delivering against deadlines and reliably delivering outcomes
Understanding of the Philippines energy sector and stakeholders.
Ability to engage with leaders from local and international partners in a respectful and appropriate manner, including eloquent and compelling speaking and writing.
Fluent in English and Filipino.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduate degree in science, engineering, policy, economics, or other relevant field.
Deep understanding of energy systems on a technical, financial, and political basis, ideally grounded with experience in Southeast Asia.
Proven track record in local, regional and international multi-stakeholder engagement, as well as building and maintaining strategic networks.
A strong creative streak with proven ability to find new and impactful approaches, influence others’ thinking, and demonstrate entrepreneurial leadership.
Experience working with utility/IPP/think-tank/development organization with a good understanding of the power sector, including utility and regulatory models.
Understanding of basic financial analysis and metrics (e.g., NPV, cash flows) and/or energy sector modeling and analysis, and their application to SE Asian energy issues.
Ability to demonstrate in-depth overview and understanding of the energy transition landscape in The Philippines, SE Asia, and globally.
Prior experience in consulting, project management, or other related fields.
Experience working among diverse groups with varying perspectives and/or facilitating challenging conversations.
We are a remote-ready organization with team members around the globe.
Please note that this position requires you to be located in the Philippines, preferably Metro Manila.
We provide you with the essential IT equipment plus a one-time home technology payment and a monthly work from home/commuter allowance to ensure you have a comfortable home office set up and necessary supplies.
We love seeing each other in person! We occasionally gather for shared time together like retreats and learning experiences. Be ready to travel for occasional in-person meetings (and of course, we cover travel costs). Some roles may require more travel, which will be discussed during the hiring process.
Compensation:
RMI compensates based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, the starting Senior Associate level salary range is between $84,000.00-$103,000.00. You would also have an additional 5% bonus target!
