Shoals sells their solar products principally to engineering, procurement, and construction firms that build solar energy projects. The custom nature of their system solutions and the engineered-to-order development cycle for solar projects typically gives Shoals a 12+ month lead time to quote, engineer, produce, and ship each order, so there is no need to stock large amounts of finished goods.
Summary:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will lead and oversee the design, development, and optimization of manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This role is critical in driving continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring production targets are met, and maintaining high standards of safety and compliance. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities:
- Process Design and Optimization:
- Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing processes to meet production, quality, and cost objectives.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies to optimize workflows and reduce waste.
- Analyze and resolve production issues to minimize downtime and improve overall efficiency.
- Equipment and Technology Management:
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement new manufacturing technologies and equipment.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams to ensure proper functioning and upkeep of machinery.
- Lead efforts in automation and robotics integration to improve productivity.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Drive process improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
- Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for defects and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure success and identify improvement opportunities.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with design, quality, and production teams to ensure seamless product launches and transitions.
- Act as a technical liaison between engineering, operations, and suppliers to resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure manufacturing processes adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct risk assessments and enforce safety protocols in the workplace.
- Project Management:
- Lead and manage projects, ensuring timely completion within budget and scope.
- Prepare and present project updates and technical reports to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field; a Master鈥檚 degree is preferred.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on process optimization and project leadership.
- Proficiency in CAD software, manufacturing simulation tools, and ERP systems.
- Strong understanding of lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and quality management systems (QMS).
- Hands-on experience with automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with diverse teams.
Preferred Certifications:
- Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt
- Certified Manufacturing Engineer (CMfgE)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
