We are seeking a Senior Commercial Energy Consultant to join our team at CET. In this role, you will provide leadership, coaching, and guidance to junior staff on technical requirements, client communications, and problem-solving while maintaining a positive and motivating work environment. You will also conduct audits and help our commercial customers complete projects that result in estimated savings, including weatherization and electrification measures for their businesses. You will collaborate with contractors to implement proposed projects and work with utility partners to take advantage of available savings incentives. Your primary focus will be to motivate customers to adopt recommendations and achieve implementation goals.


In this position, you will:

  • Lead or participate in special projects, handling conflicts with maturity and professionalism.
  • Mentor new or junior employees, offering advice on technical procedures and navigating the department, and provide ongoing performance feedback.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes, support SOP development, and work with management to implement solutions. Build and nurtures relationships within the organization, with clients, and with external partners while staying current with industry trends and certifications.
  • Conduct energy assessments of businesses and facilities and analyze assessment data. Quantify savings on weatherization and equipment and produce reports that document the recommendations. Complete the required number of assessments.
  • Remain up to date on the progress of all projects and deliverables, working with the sales team as appropriate. May locate industry contractors. Manage numerous projects simultaneously. Ensure that customer projects comply with appropriate utility program requirements to qualify for program incentives or rebates. Enter data generated by assessments into appropriate databases.
  • Educate customers about heat pump technology and energy efficiency benefits, review existing mechanical systems, and advise on what approaches a contractor may take to propose a project for their space. Recommend appropriate available incentive funding.
  • Achieve sales by communicating to the customer the results of the energy assessment and recommended energy savings measures. Maintain ongoing relationships with customers for future opportunities. Pursue opportunities for similar assessments for the customer's other facilities. Identify and install ISM's (Instant Savings Measures, such as aerators, showerheads, thermostats, etc.) or schedule future installation dates.
  • Travel widely throughout Massachusetts and occasionally neighboring states (up to 40% of the work week).
  • Maintain membership in appropriate industry trade associations and maintain ongoing professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned

You will bring the following to this position:

  • 5+ years of prior commercial or residential energy auditing experience
  • 2+ years of experience with commercial electrical energy efficiency projects
  • Certified Energy Manager or equivalent; active certification preferred
  • 1+ years of experience giving classroom-sized presentations
  • 1+ years of experience coaching customers on heat pumps & electrification
  • Experience with selling commercial building services, air source heat pumps, or other energy-efficient HVAC equipment preferred (with a record of achieving assigned sales goals)
  • Must have comfort with delivering in-person and virtual informational and sales presentations
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be organized and have the ability to work independently
  • Work style should be flexible, reliable, and self-directed
  • Must be reliable, hardworking, and trustworthy, and display leadership skills
  • Must be able to conduct site visits involving lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders and using technical equipment and tools
  • Passion for the environment, community involvement, and a desire to make a difference in a not-for-profit industry is a big plus

Compensation and Benefits:

Individual compensation will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, skills, and experience.

CET provides a monthly $85 stipend for your home internet and/or phone expenses.
