Material Handler

The Material Handler is responsible for the movement, handling, and storage of scrap and scrap related materials with a focus on production by assisting the yard and warehouse teams through various means, including hilos, loaders, skid steers, physical lifting, and is the backup to the Shipping & Receiving team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITILIES

• Adds and separates materials into designated boxes, drums, containers, or piles
• Assists the yard, S&R, and warehouse teams with the movement of materials, including (but not limited to):

1. Loading/Unloading trucks and trailers
2. Pile management 
3. Customer assistance
4. Weighing/Grading and Data Entry

• Backup to the Shipping/Receiving Team 
• Keeps the warehouse and yard clean and organized
• Process scrap metal using shears, balers, tumblers, and cutting implements
• Performs daily inspection of equipment 
• Adheres to and promotes all safety policies 
• Other responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Forklift
• Skid Steer    

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE 

• Previous scrap or salvage yard experience is a plus, but not required
• Ability and willingness to learn to recognize and classify metals such as brass, copper, stainless steel, aluminum and other metals
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and on occasion up to 80 pounds
• Must have a good attention to detail
• Must have the ability to receive a forklift license
• Must be a self-starter with a positive attitude who requires little to no supervision
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of this position
• Must be able to stand, walk, lift, bend, squat, stoop, etc. for long periods of time
• Must be willing to learn and strictly follow all company safety procedures
• Meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency

WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments, must be able to work in all weather conditions.
