We are looking for an experienced structured finance professional to lead the successful structuring, negotiation and closing of tax equity for Generate’s sustainable infrastructure assets and loan portfolios. Using your strong tax equity transaction expertise and comprehensive market knowledge you will advise Generate and its portfolio companies on all aspects of tax equity strategy, structuring, and sourcing. You will manage Generate’s tax equity relationships, originate investment commitments, collaborate with internal stakeholders and external partners, and be responsible for closing and funding transactions to established timelines and targets.

You are incredibly analytical and quantitative while also a communicator and a relationship builder, passionate about the type of work Generate is doing, looking to apply your relevant banking or finance experience to help scale a growing business through our capital resources and profile.

What you will be doing at Generate Capital as a VP/Principal on the Structured Finance team:

  • Work as part of a small (but growing) team as an integral part of the capital formation strategy

  • Develop and execute tax equity (and project debt) structures that allow the company to finance individual assets, portfolios and companies most efficiently

  • Work with the investment team on identifying, pricing and structuring transactions, including term sheet development and overseeing the diligence process

  • Lead a deal team on tax equity financings, proactively driving deal structuring, terms negotiation and optimization, and bringing transactions to a successful closing

  • Partner cross-functionally with our deal teams, CFO office, asset management, and financial operations teams to drive strategy and optimize tactics as it relates to capital formation

  • Build and oversee financial models to perform comparison and financial valuation analyses on potential capital structure optimization initiatives

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with banks, syndicators, direct lenders and other relevant third-party capital providers as well as lawyers, insurance providers, valuation providers et al

Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:

  • A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission

  • Undergraduate degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent work experience, with outstanding academic record

  • 8 - 12 years of relevant experience in the sustainable infrastructure or renewable energy industry with a demonstrated track record of structuring and closing on tax equity (and project debt) transactions as sponsor or investor. Deep experience leading tax equity transactions a must

  • Established network of relevant industry contacts and the drive to build and maintain a strong network of long-term relationships with both tax equity and debt providers

  • Outstanding analytical, quantitative and technical abilities, including expert command over project finance and tax equity modeling concepts, tax equity structures, accounting and financial statements

  • Excellent PowerPoint and presentation skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work with both internal and external stakeholders

  • Ability to think creatively and critically and thrive in a dynamic, and often ambiguous work environment

  • Unimpeachable integrity and glowing references

  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including empathy, intuition, and listening as well as strong writing, editing, and basic design skills.

  • High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations or new challenges

  • Intellectual agility, curiosity, and creativity; problem-solving is your default mode

  • Entrepreneurial spirit: flexibility, comfort with risk, recognition that “perfect can be the enemy of the good”
