ABOUT THE ROLE
The core of the 3Degrees mission is enabling businesses, organizations, and individuals to reduce their environmental impact or achieve their renewable energy and sustainability goals. The Environmental Markets division procures and sells environmental commodities to meet our customers’ needs. The North America Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) team is focused on the United States and Canada, actively trading in over 55 REC markets that span every power pool in the country.
The Trading Associate will be responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of deal entry into our internal database. This role requires a strong operational focus, emphasizing process adherence, workflow optimization, and meticulous execution across various departments. Cross-functional collaboration with the Contracts and Trade Operations teams to ensure the accuracy of transaction details is reflected in our agreements with counterparties and our internal database is also a key responsibility of the Trading Associate.
This is a full-time 3Degrees Environmental Markets position located in Portland, ME and will report to the Portland, ME-based Manager of Trading Administration.

WHAT YOU’LL DO
Contract Management & Execution:
Engage with the North America REC portfolio to ensure all positions are clearly and correctly reflected
Assist in generating and delivering contracts to counterparties in a timely manner
Manage increased contracting responsibilities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of agreements with counterparties
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
Work across departments to efficiently problem-solve contract issues and verify deal data
Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external trading firms, ensuring alignment in deal terms and expectations
Support the transition to new trading platforms and provide feedback to improve operational workflows
Market & Portfolio Support:
Assist Origination and Trading teams in generating trade proposals, RFP-related documentation, and risk review write-ups
Assist with deliveries, as well as portfolio optimization and allocation of REC supply
Develop an understanding of renewable energy voluntary and compliance markets, and related regulatory frameworks

You have a strong foundation in operational strategy and execution, able to streamline processes and drive effectiveness. You pride yourself on your attention to detail and excel at managing competing priorities. Others would say you are a quick learner seeking to build a career in renewable energy and/or energy commodities. You have experience as a member of a fast-paced and progressive team and enjoy managing various tasks. Here are additional key qualities we are looking for:
Individuals with 2+ years of professional mid-office operations experience, ideally with experience in managing processes end-to-end and collaborating with external client
Proficiency in Excel at an intermediate level, with experience in data manipulation and analysis
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong attention to detail
Experience in a fast-paced, high growth, startup environment and comfort with customer outreach
Familiarity with reviewing basic legal documents
Experience working with contracting processes and attention to detail in legal documentation review
Team player with a hunger to learn about environmental commodities, trading, and the renewable energy sector

HOW WE DEFINE SUCCESS
Within 30 days,
Complete onboarding and understand 3Degrees' mission, the Environmental Markets division, and the North America REC team's focus
Become proficient in internal databases and systems for accurate deal entry
Establish initial working relationships with key stakeholders across relevant departments
Develop a clear understanding of team processes, tools, and workflows, identifying potential improvements
Within 90 days,
Independently manage accurate and timely deal entry into the internal database, meeting deadlines and quality standards
Proactively identify and resolve routine contract issues, collaborating effectively with internal stakeholders
Contribute to generating and delivering contracts to counterparties, ensuring timely and accurate processing
Demonstrate a solid understanding of the REC market and related regulatory frameworks, supporting the Origination and Trading teams
Within 6 months,
Manage increased contracting responsibilities, ensuring timely and accurate processing of complex agreements
Proactively identify and implement process improvements within contract management and deal entry workflows
Effectively collaborate with external trading firms, ensuring alignment in deal terms and building strong working relationships
Contribute to trade proposals, RFP documentation, and risk reviews, demonstrating market understanding and portfolio strategy
Within 1 year,
Become a subject matter expert in contract management and deal entry, serving as a resource for the team
Contribute to the transition to new trading platforms, providing feedback and ensuring smooth implementation
Develop and implement strategies to optimize REC supply allocation and portfolio management
Propose solutions for complex contract issues, demonstrating advanced problem-solving skills
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Compensation: The starting base pay for this position is $89,000 - $100,000 in the US. Base pay is dependent upon many factors such as location, transferable or job-related skills, work experience, relevant training, business needs, and market demands. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future
