Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Engineering & Planning the Associate Engineer will be responsible for supporting the planning, engineering, and execution of clean energy projects in metro New York City. The ideal candidate will have an engineering background, be familiar with the utility interconnection process, an understanding of renewable energy technologies, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and meet quality standards.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to enter and or grow their career in renewable energy, project development, and engineering. You will gain exposure to utility interconnection teams, energy policy experts, and project developers.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, submit, and track interconnection applications with utilities for battery storage projects. 
  • Work closely with utilities, engineers, and project developers to resolve technical questions related to interconnection feasibility, constraints, and costs.
  • Evaluate technical considerations for project sites.
  • Coordinate with external consultants to obtain site evaluations (e.g., geotechnical, flood, etc.).
  • Facilitate smooth project handoffs between development, engineering, and construction teams.
  • Ensure clear communication of technical and related requirements between stakeholdersDevelop SOPs for new processes.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline early-stage development and reduce bottlenecks.
  • Maintain and update a knowledge base of interconnection guidelines and best practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required education and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field) or equivalent technical background.
  • Familiarity with interconnection processes, utility coordination, and distributed energy resources (DER).
  • Basic understanding of battery storage, electrical grids, and renewable energy technologies.
  • Proficiency in Excel, GIS tools, or project management software is a plus
  • Strong organizational and communication skills to interface with teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
