Senior Mechanical Design Engineer 

 

About the Role: 

Nextracker is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our dynamic team to design the next generation of Nextracker products. You will play a crucial role in developing and implementing next-generation products, from concept to manufacturing.  

What You Will Do: 

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (Systems, Electrical, Software, Manufacturing, and Industrial Design) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs with other subsystems. 

  • Lead the entire product development lifecycle for assigned projects, including requirements gathering, concept generation, detailed design, prototyping, testing, validation, and production release. 

  • High familiarity with power electronics enclosures including high voltage requirements, ingress protection, and thermal management. 

  • Generate detailed designs (DFM / DFA) for mechanical parts/subsystems and possess analytical skills to evaluate the feasibility of designs/risk analysis. 

  • Conduct in-depth analyses, including FEA (static, dynamic, thermal), CFD, and tolerance analysis, to optimize designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability. 

  • Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks and ePDM, adhering to GD&T and best practices. 

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate design performance and identify potential failure modes. 

  • Oversee the prototyping process, working closely with vendors and internal manufacturing resources to ensure timely and cost-effective fabrication. 

  • Present design reviews and technical reports to internal stakeholders and management. 

  • Investigate and resolve field failures or product performance issues. 

 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelor's/ Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field;  

  • 10+ years of proven experience in mechanical design and product development, with a strong track record of successful product launches. 

  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks and EPDM, including advanced modeling, surfacing, and simulation capabilities. 

  • Extensive experience with FEA software (Ansys) and a deep understanding of structural mechanics and heat transfer. 

  • Thorough understanding of GD&T principles and their application in design and manufacturing. 

  • Strong knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including machining, sheet metal fabrication, casting, injection molding, and additive manufacturing. 

  • Demonstrated experience with DFM/DFA principles and their practical application. 

  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting mechanical systems. 

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. 

  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail. 

  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations. 

Pay Range (Applicable to California)

$190,000.00 - $210,000.00 dependent on level of experience
