Job Title: Software Engineering InternDepartment: Software DevelopmentReports to: Senior Software EngineerEffective Date: May 2025Location: Brooklyn, NY | Houston, TX | RemoteTravel: 10% POSITION PURPOSE: This is a paid temporary, non-exempt position that will be reporting to a Senior Software Engineer in the Software Development team. The Software Engineering Intern will use problem solving, computer science knowledge, and programming skills to assist the software team deliver value to its internal stakeholders. We work closely with the market operations team whose focus is the optimization of our battery energy storage system dispatch (charging and discharging) across the Key Capture Energy fleet. Responsibilities may include building reports, APIs, Webservices, Web Development, ETL Jobs, Database Development or any other required development tasks on KCE’s proprietary software. The ideal candidate has some experience developing in Python and/or C#, is familiar with basic OO concepts and is interested in applying computer science principles and programming knowledge to real-life problems while learning about power markets.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with the software engineering director or engineering mentor on assignments furthering the team’s objectives.
Assignments can include contributing to production code, developing test applications, or building out test frameworks.
Create relevant documentation (reports, presentations, or similar) for tracking project progress or technical review.
Develop new features and functionalities in our existing codebase
Populate, Analyze and manipulate databases in MS SQL Server
Participate in design discussions and code reviews
All other duties as required
WORK EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
Undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree in electrical engineering or similar background
Pursuing a degree in Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field
Experience with python and/or C#, .Net, HTML, CSS,
Visual Studio Code / Visual Studio, Github, Azure
Knowledge of Client-Server concepts & Webservices
General knowledge on Cloud Infrastructure (Virtual Machines, Docker Containers)
Exposure to Object Oriented Design principles, data structures and design patterns
