Job Overview
The Managing Director of SCS Mexico leads the establishment and successful operation of the entity, ensuring its strategic growth and operational excellence in sustainability and third-party certification services. This role is responsible for developing and implementing certification programs, fostering industry partnerships, building and training staff, improving operational efficiencies, and establishing and meeting P&L and profit objectives. The Managing Director will oversee the delivery of high-quality certification and verification services, ensuring adherence to international best practices, regulatory frameworks, and evolving sustainability standards.

Additionally, the position will be responsible for securing and leading large, complex projects, optimizing operational efficiencies, and achieving financial targets. The Managing Director builds and nurtures key stakeholder relationships, expands the company's certification reach, and maintains strong connections with the head office in the United States.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operations and Financial Management

  • Oversee the seamless operation of SCS Mexico, ensuring efficiency and compliance with sustainability and certification regulations
  • Establish office infrastructure and implement streamlined processes
  • Coordinate and oversee various functions such as administrative support, IT, and logistics to ensure resources are optimally allocated and utilized
  • Oversee financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
  • Maintain strong collaboration with the head office in the United States, ensuring strategic alignment and knowledge-sharing on global sustainability trends
  • Keep abreast of regulatory developments, certification standards, and evolving industry best practices
  • Manage revenue, expense, operations, and marketing goals in alignment with the head office

Business Development

  • Expand the company鈥檚 footprint in sustainability auditing and third-party certification by identifying growth opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, fisheries, energy, and corporate sustainability
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote SCS Mexico as a leader in sustainability verification and compliance services
  • Establish key partnerships with industry organizations, NGOs, and government entities to enhance certification credibility and reach
  • Drive market research initiatives to identify emerging trends in sustainable sourcing, ESG reporting, and environmental compliance
  • Represent the company at global and regional sustainability forums, conferences, and networking events to enhance visibility and engagement
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to craft targeted strategies promoting the value of third-party certification for businesses and supply chains

Client Relations and Team Leadership

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring tailored sustainability solutions that support their certification and ESG reporting goals
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on sustainability certifications, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices
  • Oversee a high-performing team of auditors, certification specialists, and sustainability consultants, ensuring continuous professional development
  • Foster a culture of innovation, integrity, and continuous learning within the organization
  • Provide mentorship and leadership to enhance technical expertise and operational excellence in sustainability certification services

Program Quality and Development

  • Ensure rigorous quality assurance and compliance with internationally recognized sustainability and certification standards
  • Develop and implement project scopes that align with company goals, tracking timelines, budgets, and deliverables effectively
  • Maintain and enhance quality management systems to uphold certification integrity
  • Drive operational improvements and efficiencies to enhance service delivery, client satisfaction, and company reputation in the industry

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, Sustainability, or related field and
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in the sustainability, environmental, auditing, or certification sector and
  • 5+ years of experience managing staff, budgets, P&L, and corporate strategy
  • Strong background in third-party certification
  • Experience working directly with or for a United States-based company
  • Proven track record in business development and expanding sustainability and certification service offerings
  • Strong financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and revenue management
  • Excellent strategic planning skills, capable of anticipating sustainability market shifts and aligning company strategy accordingly
  • Strong leadership skills, with experience managing diverse, multidisciplinary teams in sustainability and certification
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, with professional experience in bilingual business communication
  • Commitment to environmental stewardship, corporate sustainability, and ethical certification practices

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Environmental Science, Business Administration, Sustainability, or related field
  • Experience in forestry, fisheries, carbon markets, natural resources, or environmental compliance certification
  • Expertise in ESG reporting, sustainable supply chain management, and climate risk assessment

Working Remotely
SCS is recruiting all open roles to be remote; allowing our employees the ability to work flexibly and allowing SCS as a company to diversify the experience and perspectives of our growing workforce. This is a home-office based role and may include travel with local, domestic, and/or international trips. Details will be clarified during the recruitment process.

Estimated Annual Salary
$90,000 - $140,000 USD
