Call for Applications: Biomaterials R&D & Product Developer (Residency-Based, Full-Time)

Duration: April – October (Full-time, Residency-Based, Accommodation Included)
Recycle Lebanon’s TerraPods is seeking a Biomaterials R&D & Product Developer with a strong scientific background to lead research, product innovation, and educational programs in our low-tech bio lab.
Key Responsibilities
Applied Research & Development
Conduct applied research and development on fibres, mycelial materials, cellulose, plant-based compounds, marine materials, agricultural by-products, and proteins.
Develop biomaterial based packaging, textile, building materials and consumer goods
Conduct material testing, process optimization, and technical documentation.
Implement scalable, regenerative production methods using locally sourced materials.
Ensure functional, market-ready product development, moving beyond prototyping.
Oversee and manage the low-tech biomaterials lab and workshop, ensuring a dynamic and solutions-driven environment for research, experimentation, and product development.
Workshop & Residency Leadership
Design and facilitate specialised technical workshops and residencies focused on biofabrication, applied mycology, and biomaterial innovation, with an emphasis on structural and textile applications, fermentation-based material development, and bio-architectural integration.
Collaborate with scientists, researchers, & industry professionals to advance biomaterial applications.
Contribute to knowledge exchange and the advancement of biomaterials.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Degree in material science, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
Strong understanding of biofabrication processes and natural material extraction.
Technical expertise in biomaterials research, formulation, and product development.
Hands-on experience developing scalable, functional biomaterial products in low tech lab environment.
Ability to analyze & test material properties, troubleshoot production challenges, & refine formulas.
Experience in teaching, training, or facilitating workshops is an asset.
Proven ability to manage a laboratory and workshop environment, ensuring efficient R&D workflows.
Ability to live on-site at TerraPods for the full residency period.
A plus for applicants with experience in applied biochemistry to develop and formulate household, skincare, and personal care products.
Compensation & Benefits
Monthly salary of 2,000 USD
Accommodation & meals provided on-site during full-time residency from May to October.
