The Chief of Staff reports directly to the CEO and President, serving as a strategic powerhouse and force multiplier for the executive team. This high-impact role is responsible for driving execution on the company’s most critical priorities, enhancing decision-making, and ensuring organizational alignment. Acting as an extension of the CEO and President, the Chief of Staff orchestrates the company’s cross-functional operations, leads strategic initiatives, and translates vision into action – making a lasting impact on the company’s growth and trajectory.
We are looking for a highly strategic leader with exceptional problem solving, stakeholder management, and communication skills, who thrives in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment. The ideal candidate brings sharp analytical thinking, strong executive presence, and the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights. They will work closely with the CEO, President, and executive team to set and execute leadership priorities, streamline decision-making, and foster a culture of accountability and operational excellence.
The expected timeline for this role is 36 months, after which the Chief of Staff will have the opportunity to transition into another role at Generate.
What you will be doing at Generate Capital as the Chief of Staff:
Strategy & Business Planning
Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO and President, helping define and drive strategic priorities
Partner with leadership to set and refine the company’s strategy and operational priorities
Represent the CEO in key meetings, synthesizing insights, anticipating challenges and ensuring follow-through on critical decisions
Lead executive preparation for board and investor engagements, working closely with the IR and fundraising teams to ensure the CEO and President are fully prepared for high-stakes meetings, including the annual investor meeting and select strategic engagements
Communications & Leadership Alignment
Amplify the voices of the CEO and President, shaping a cohesive, compelling narrative that resonates across internal and external audiences
Translate complex ideas into clear, high-impact messaging, ensuring alignment across leadership, employees, and external stakeholders
Bridge the gap between executives and the broader organization, ensuring transparency, clarity and a shared sense of purpose
Anticipate and refine messaging needs, proactively identifying opportunities to strengthen executive communication
Train leaders and managers throughout Generate on communicating strategy and business priorities to ensure alignment and effective execution
Operational Excellence & Decision Making
Ensure company priorities are clearly defined, with owners, timelines and measurable outcomes
Drive execution across teams, ensuring cross-functional alignment and removing obstacles that slow down progress
Streamline reporting and surface key insights, ensuring leadership stays focused on what drives business impact
Distill complex information into clear, actionable takeaways, helping executives cut through noise, ask the right questions and make better decisions
Facilitate executive team meetings, ensuring effective agenda-setting, strategic discussions and timely follow-through
Candidate qualifications & core characteristics:
A demonstrated passion for, or commitment to, our mission
5+ years of experience, including at least 2+ years at a top strategy consulting firm (Engagement Manager, Project Leader, or Manager level or equivalent)
Exceptional communication skills—strong writing, editing, and presentation abilities, with the ability to synthesize complex ideas into compelling narratives and engage stakeholders across teams and geographies
Proven ability to influence senior leaders, aligning executive priorities, driving cross-functional collaboration and providing strategic counsel to the Management Committee
Track record of aligning broader range of stakeholders across functions and teams to deliver on key outcomes
Highly organized and execution-focused, with a track record of translating strategy into action, managing competing priorities and keeping leadership focused on what matters most
Industry experience in sustainable infrastructure, financial services, or other sectors relevant to Generate’s mission is strongly preferred
High level of self-awareness and humility, with excitement about confronting uncomfortable situations or new challenges. Works hard to get better every single day
Intellectual agility and curiosity, superb analytical skills; problem-solving is your default mode

Generate’s compensation packages are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Salary decisions take into account a wide variety of factors including, but not limited to: skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $240,000. In addition, the compensation package may include a discretionary bonus and other benefits, including health care benefits, retirement benefits, benefits permitting paid days off (including sick leave, parental leave, paid time off or vacation benefits), and other benefits that must be reported for federal tax purposes. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at the top of this range.
