Electrical Design Engineer - LV / Building Services

As AECOM’s next Electrical Engineer, joining our established multi-discipline team in Glasgow you will support both major and minor design and construction projects including performing electrical engineering analysis and design, establishing project design requirements, design criteria, and estimating assumptions, supporting construction and commissioning efforts, interfacing with clients, customers, consultants, and construction firms.


The successful candidate will either hold, or shall be working towards Chartership, and have proven electrical building services design experience, delivering to quality, time and budget. This role will suit someone with an electrical engineering / building services degree, who is enthusiastic, self-motivated, and looking to advance their career.

Operations:

  • Contribute to successful project completion by providing your technical services in accordance with project time and quality, generally following the RIBA design stages.
  • Input to pre-qualification and selection of contractors, respond to tender queries, comment and review tender returns, provide support to contractors during construction phase.
  • Identify and effectively meet the requirements and expectations of our multiple clients, across sectors such as defence, education and healthcare.

Drafting, modelling, reports and calculations:

  • Maintain, enhance and apply both design and technical knowledge ensuring production of high-quality drawings (using Revit primarily, and AutoCAD too).
  • Electrical design of lighting, LV supply and small power distribution, containment, earthing and lightning protection, fire and voice alarm systems, telecommunication services, as well as other related electrical utility systems as assigned.
  • Preparation of electrical design calculations, drawings, specifications, and tender documents through the RIBA work stages.
  • Participate in the design progress and coordination meetings within the wider multi-discipline team.
  • Prepare outline scheme report / technical content of the design information.
  • Act as an subject matter expert and key point of contact internally and externally.
  • Obtain the necessary information both internally and externally from Architects, Quantity Surveyors and Design Consultants for the design to proceed.
  • Attend tender / client interviews.
  • Attend site inspection meetings.
  • Conduct site surveys to inform subsequent designs or design team outputs.
  • Quality assurance:
    • Ensuring adherence to AECOM Corporate Standards.
    • Ensuring that all activities are performed in a safe manner and comply with AECOM’s Safety-Health-Environmental requirements.
    • Ensuring the relevant QA procedures (both client and AECOM) are followed.
    • Maintain, develop and retain the highest appropriate standard of technical skill.
    • Ensure the project work complies with the Project Management Plan and Program.

About you

  • Commit to continual professional development and learning on relevant technological, business and human relationship matters
  • Experience of seeing conceptual designs through to completion and dealing directly with clients.
  • Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, able to inspire, influence and negotiate.
  • Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.
  • Excellent report writing skills, experience of making presentations and attending meetings with clients is essential.
  • Keen eye for detail. Rigorous adherence to Quality Assurance and taking ownership of own work/outputs to provide excellent products to our clients.
