LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is a high-growth renewable energy company forging a sustainable future through integrity, innovation, and positive impact. We own and operate 30 large wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States, totaling over 3 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.

LRE has an ambitious goal of 10GW of operating assets by 2028 and are developing and contracting an increasing pipeline of new projects every year. We take a full-lifecycle approach to our projects, built on a long-term ownership model and a company culture dedicated to our community partners and protecting the environment.

Position Overview:
The Vice President, Controller, is a pivotal officer level leadership role, reporting to the CFO and responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s accounting, tax, audit and financial reporting functions. This role requires a dynamic leader who will evaluate and transform processes, drive technology advancements, and scale LRE’s accounting organization to meet the demands of a rapidly growing and complex enterprise. The VP and Controller will partner with the CFO and senior leadership to align accounting strategies and policy development with organizational goals while ensuring compliance, accuracy, and financial integrity. This position is also key member of the CFO’s leadership team and succession pipeline, to sustain LRE’s role as a leading renewable energy platform in the US market.
Key Responsibilities:
•Develop and execute a comprehensive vision for LRE’s accounting organization to support the company’s strong growth and complexity.
•Partner with executive leadership to align accounting strategies with business objectives and organizational goals.
•Lead the creation and implementation of innovative policies, procedures, and processes to enhance operational efficiency and scalability.
•Develop key performance metrics for the organization and identify opportunities for improvement.
•Provide financial insights and analysis to senior leadership, contributing to strategy formulation and decision-making.
•Oversee the Accounts Payable (AP), General Ledger, and Tax functions, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and timeliness.
•Manage accounting and complex consolidations for subsidiaries, partnerships, and joint ventures in a rapidly expanding organizational structure.
•Development of audited financial statements including footnotes and MD&A for LRE Operations (LREO), our Operating subsidiary, which is credit rated and has publicly traded debt securities.
•Lead the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements.
•Direct the annual audit process, collaborating with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate reporting and delivery of project level and consolidated financial statements to our financial partners and investors (e.g. tax equity providers, project back-leverage bank and bond debt, bank revolving credit facility and LC providers, etc.).
•Direct the annual tax compliance filings process.
•Identify, implement, and optimize innovative financial tools and systems to enhance operational efficiency and reporting accuracy.
•Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6 senior level direct reports, and a high-performing and growing accounting team of approximately 30 employees, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation.
•Provide coaching, career development, and performance management to build a scalable and efficient accounting organization with career growth and advancement opportunities.
•Ensure the team is equipped with the skills and knowledge required to navigate current financial regulations, industry standards, and company-specific needs.
•Design, implement, and oversee robust internal controls to ensure compliance with financial regulations and safeguard company assets.
•Continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, and processes to align with industry best practices and organizational goals.
•Lead initiatives to identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring long-term stability and integrity.
•Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support our efforts for continuous improvement to key initiatives.
•Support the establishment of new subsidiaries, partnerships, and joint ventures.
•Lead accounting efforts that position LRE as a leader in the renewable energy sector.

Qualifications & Experience:
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
•CPA, CMA, or similar professional certification (preferred).
•MBA or other advanced degree (preferred).
•10+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Controller, VP of Finance).
•Proven experience in creating and transforming processes within a high-growth, complex organization.
•Strong expertise in managing consolidations across intricate and evolving organizational structures.
•Extensive experience in financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and accounting operations, preferably in a publicly traded company or large enterprise.
•Familiarity with leading accounting technology platforms and driving technology transformation initiatives.
•Visionary leadership with the ability to develop, communicate, and execute a clear strategy for the accounting organization.
•Demonstrated ability to manage change, drive process improvements, and scale accounting functions in a dynamic environment.
•Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
•Experience with Partnership Flip Structures and HLBV (Hypothetical Liquidation at Book Value) considered an asset.
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with senior executives, board members, and external stakeholders.
•A collaborative mindset with the ability to build consensus across teams and departments.
•Strong analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills.
