Overview

RES is seeking a Senior Water Resource Engineer with ten+ years of experience in water resources or coastal engineering and natural system restoration to work in a hybrid capacity from any of our Florida office locations.

As a member of our team, you will focus on projects for ecosystem restoration, water quality improvements, and improvements in complex watersheds, as well as solving unique ecological and hydrologic issues in various complex watersheds across the state. Opportunities may include projects for large landscape-level flood mitigation, stormwater retrofits; stream and wetland restoration; living shorelines; and nutrient reduction projects related to EPA’s Impaired Waters Rule/Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDLs) and Florida’s Basin Management Action Plans (BMAPs).

 

The Mission

Join our team of engineers and professionals in Florida to develop nature-based solutions. This is a perfect opportunity for a Senior Engineer to make an immediate impact on the design and implementation of unique and large-scale restoration projects. 

 

You will be leading and developing a variety of engineering projects and initiatives; feasibility and concept development for watershed-level stormwater management, stream and wetland restoration solutions, water quality treatment technologies and BMPs; post design; errors and omissions reviews and implementing corrective actions. 

Technical Design and Permitting Support: You will provide technical design and permitting support for RES Florida projects and collaborate with other regions to assist with technical design support.

Lead responses to requests for qualifications and proposals for government and municipal projects and contracts. Assist with larger marketing and sales initiatives for RES Florida Region.

What your day-to-day might look like?

Our team’s workload is diverse and varies depending on the pressing regional issues, but the position will comprise of: 

You will be responsible for developing and evaluating plans and criteria for a variety of engineering projects and initiatives; leading and assisting with feasibility and concept development for watershed-level stormwater management, stream and wetland restoration solutions, water quality treatment technologies and BMPs; identifying errors/malfunctions/omissions and implementing corrective actions. 

Technical Design and Permitting Support: You will collaborate with the engineering teams in Florida and other regions to design and to design and implement enhancements to existing and new natural systems.

Lead responses to requests for qualifications and proposals for government and municipal projects and contracts.  

Assist with larger marketing and sales initiatives.

Qualifications

We would like to talk to you if you have the following: 

 

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Coastal Engineering with a water resources or environmental focus. 
  • PE License in the state of Florida
  • Ten+ years of experience in designing ecological and hydrological restoration projects, including terrestrial, coastal, estuarine, aquatic, watershed and floodplain management, natural systems mitigation, living shorelines and restoration design and management, stream and wetland restoration, and/or wetlands restoration projects and stormwater management systems
  • Experience with Hydrologic and Hydraulic Modeling software (ICPR 3 and 4, Storm Wise, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and XPSSWMM).
  • Stormwater BMP Design.
  • Ability to research and analyze different treatment techniques and propose innovative restoration design approaches for water quality treatment and their impacts on nutrients and feasibility for water quality improvement at sites.

 

 

What will make you stand out: 

 

  • Experience designing ecological and hydrological restoration projects, including terrestrial, coastal, estuarine, aquatic, and/or wetlands restoration projects.
  • Knowledge of watershed level hydrology, stream geomorphology, physicochemical processes, stream hydraulics, water quality, design/assessment of urban/agricultural water resource and nutrient management best management practices, aquatic ecology, and sediment quality and transport.
  • Knowledge of stream natural channel design, including geomorphology, physicochemical processes, stream hydraulics, aquatic ecology, and sediment transport in Florida.
  • Knowledge of groundwater hydrology, and stream and wetland biological functionality. 
  • Living shoreline design experience. 
  • Experience in Low Impact Design systems. 
  • Experience preparing project estimates and floodplain analyses, H&H models investigation, evaluating groundwater hydrology, and assessing and restoring stream and wetland biological functionality. Direct experience with Federal/State/Local environmental regulations and understanding of the Federal Clean Water Act, State Stormwater Rule, and other state and federal environmental regulations, and permitting processes.
