Role Overview: Hands-on Learning Experience
Are you passionate about nature, data, and technology? Do you want to gain real-world experience in ecology, biodiversity, and data science?
This 3-6-month full-time internship is an exciting entry point into the world of nature-tech, where you’ll work with real datasets, develop critical technical skills, and contribute to meaningful projects that impact biodiversity at scale. Join our Global Delivery & Operations team to get hands-on experience with data processing, validation, spatial analysis, and operational workflows, supporting high-impact projects at the intersection of tech and nature.
Please note that candidates must have right to work in the UK and be located 1-2 hours from GMT (sponsorship is not provided). Start date will be May 2025.
What You’ll Do:
Get hands-on experience supporting global biodiversity action
Work with ecological and geospatial datasets within established data pipelines executing data ingestion, processing, validation, and quality checks
Identify, investigate and report bugs in data processing
Assist with admin and organisational tasks to keep data pipelines running smoothly
What You’ll Learn:
How the private sector is tracking, quantifying and reporting biodiversity
How real-world biodiversity data is collected, processed, and analysed
How to work a wide range of digital ecological data types
How to manipulate, visualise, and analyse datasets using Python and SQL
How ecological data interfaces with ML models and how cloud based data pipelines operate
How project management works in a fast-paced tech startup
What We’re Looking For:
Background in ecology or biodiversity (MSc preferred) OR 1-2 years’ experience in data science or delivery operations, preferably at an early-stage tech startup
Foundational Python skills and strong data science skills (data manipulation and analysis)
Experience using SQL
Experience with cloud-based systems (Azure, AWS, etc.), and Git/Github
Familiarity with R is preferred but not essential.
Experience working with GIS and spatial data is preferred but not essential.
Strong attention to detail—especially when handling data
Interest in working in a fast-moving, mission-driven startup
Willingness to roll up your sleeves for some of the less glamorous but essential tasks
