Be the catalyst that drives real change for our planet...

Samsara Eco has one clear mission: to repair our planet through infinite plastic recycling. Yes, it’s a mighty mission but it’s something every single one of us here at Samsara Eco is determined to achieve. And it’s what motivates us to dedicate our time and energy to every single day.

Our technology is like our team. One of a kind. And we know that, so while we are creating technology to repair our planet, we’re also building a great place to grow careers. A place where everyone can do the best work of their life, making meaningful impact on our planet and ourselves.

Who we are...

We’re a biotechnology innovator repairing our planet through infinite recycling. We’re taking the 10 billion tonnes of plastics and textiles wasting away in landfill and our environment, and recycling it, infinitely to create a truly circular loop for packaging, clothing, airbags and everything in between.

It means brands can make the products we all know and love without the environmental damage. Because by using what we already have, we can end the world’s reliance on dirty fossil fuels to slow climate change and ensure we have a liveable planet for future generations.

The Role...

Join our dynamic Design team applying computational protein design and machine learning to revolutionise enzymatic recycling. You’ll play a key role in discovering and engineering plastic-degrading enzymes and expanding the applications of Samsara’s protein design platform.

Work closely with our experimental Protein Engineering team and external partners to develop and implement computational workflows for multiple protein design projects. A strong background in bioinformatics for protein engineering is essential, and experience with ancestral sequence reconstruction is highly desirable.

This is your chance to push the boundaries of bioinformatics and protein engineering in a high-impact, cutting-edge research environment. If you're passionate about protein design, bioinformatics, and software development for biological data, we’d love to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities...

  • Develop and optimise computational workflows for protein design, discovery, and engineering.
  • Apply bioinformatics, statistical methods, and machine learning to protein function prediction and sequence design.
  • Curate, analyse, and align protein sequences from public databases to extract meaningful insights.
  • Perform phylogenetic analysis and ancestral sequence reconstruction using evolutionary models and statistical validation.
  • Integrate sequence and structural data to enhance predictions and understanding of protein function.
  • Write and maintain scripts for handling and analysing large-scale sequence and structure datasets.
  • Automate and streamline computational workflows to improve scalability and reproducibility.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to validate computational predictions with experimental data.
  • Communicate findings effectively through reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences.

Skills and Competencies...

  • PhD or equivalent industry experience in bioinformatics, computational biology, protein engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python for scalable bioinformatics workflows, following software engineering best practices (version control, testing, documentation).
  • Expertise in sequence analysis, alignment, evolutionary models, and phylogenetic tree reconstruction, with experience integrating protein sequence and structural data into computational workflows.
  • Experience with HPC environments, including SLURM/PBS job scheduling, distributed workflow optimisation, and containerised solutions for reproducibility.
  • Strong collaborative skills, bridging computational and experimental research in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Eagerness to stay updated on machine learning and computational protein design, applying innovative solutions to research challenges.
  • Highly organised, proactive, and an effective communicator, able to work independently and within a team.
