The Helper will safely assist drivers and other employees in the collection of solid waste materials from a residential truck.



 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Waste Collection: Collect solid waste and recyclable materials from customer premises or curbside, as applicable.
  • Loading and Sorting: Load solid waste into the rear or side of a waste collection vehicle and sort recyclables into appropriate compartments.
  • Driver Assistance: Assist the driver in the safe operation of the vehicle, including backing up and maneuvering in tight spaces.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate truck equipment to compact trash and materials into the vehicle.
  • Pre-Route Inspection: Audit the waste collection vehicle for proper equipment before departure (e.g., broom, shovel).
  • Customer Service: Report customer-related issues to the driver immediately and identify and remove prohibited waste items.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures, including personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and vehicle operation rules.
  • Route Efficiency: Collaborate with the supervisor to enhance routing efficiency and maintain quality standards.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Help maintain cleanliness of the interior and exterior of the vehicle.
  • Additional Tasks: Assist with cleaning carts, warehouse duties, sorting, stacking pallets, operating the cardboard compactor, and more.
  • Meetings: Attend safety and branch meetings as required.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as needed, as directed by management.

Requirements:

  • Education: High school diploma or GED (desired, but not required).
  • Experience: One to three months of related experience or training (preferred, but not required).
  • Driver鈥檚 License: Valid driver鈥檚 license preferred (but not mandatory).
  • Safety Standards: Ability to meet safety-sensitive criteria as per company standards.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Communication: Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively with others.
  • Independence: Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Equipment Operation: Ability to operate necessary equipment for the job.

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift for extended periods (90% of the time).
  • Strength: Ability to lift up to 65 pounds regularly and push/move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Motor Skills: Ability to use hands and fingers, kneel, crawl, talk, hear, climb, and balance.
  • Vision: Must meet visual requirements for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor Exposure: Work is primarily outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions (e.g., rain, extreme heat/cold).
  • Noise and Environment: Frequent exposure to loud noise, moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Traffic: Constant work in motor vehicle traffic conditions.
  • Physical Environment: Occasional work in high or precarious places.
