Summary:

The Import/Export Office (IEO), located in New York, supports HAL divisions, subsidiaries, and affiliate companies in their efforts to comply with import/export laws and regulations. The group provides guidance on a wide variety of regulatory compliance issues, including product classification, import valuation, export screening, Incoterms, procedures manuals, broker management, internal audits, and training. 

Responsibilities:

  • Classify imported product for Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and exported product for Export Control Classification Number (ECCN), Schedule B numbers, and licensing requirements. Verify third-party supplied classifications for accuracy.

  • Ensure compliance with other government agency (OGA) requirements including Food and Drug Administration, Environmental Protection Agency, and Department of Transportation.

  • Validate export screenings and perform sanctions and restricted party screening of entities and transactions via the use of third-party screening tool.

  • Develop strong relationships with internal divisions, related companies, and external forwarder/brokers to support compliance with U.S export and import regulations.

  • Maintain SAP S/4 HANA system and other internal databases with correct Import and Export information including HTS numbers, ECCNs, and SAP “country” licenses for individual business units.

  • Manuals. Support the upkeep of the company’s written internal compliance programs.

  • Training. Participates in development of training content and promoting compliance awareness by delivering training to various Hitachi group company constituents.

  • Audits. Assist in development of audit plans. Carry out audit plan to identify issues and generate reports with identification of strengths and weaknesses. Detail compliance improvement plans.

  • Identify and drive process improvements and investigate cost savings.

  • This role will perform certain administrative and planning duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • 5-6 years of experience in import and/or export compliance field.

  • Bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain, trade compliance or related field preferred.

  • Experience using global trade management platforms (e.g., Visual Compliance).

  • Experience with Automated Export Systems (AES) filings with US Census Bureau.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work independently.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs.

  • Customs broker license a plus.

For residents of New York City, New York, California, Washington, Ohio and Illinois as required under applicable pay transparency laws, the expected salary range for this position if filled remotely is $86,263 - $107,829. Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
