Capital Power is currently seeking a leader with system thinking skills to join our amazing Operations team at Goreway.
As an essential member of the Leadership Team, the Maintenance Manager is responsible for ensuring plans, processes and measures are in place to ensure economical daily and long-term maintenance functions that allow the facility and equipment reliability, and capacity is achieved to meet the plant commitments. Utilizing industry best practices and established operating and maintenance procedures you will be responsible for providing equipment reliability required to achieve performance factors in the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) plan at the optimal lifecycle costs.
You will be responsible for ensuring the plant maintenance team maintains all plant equipment and facilities, along with the planning/scheduling for all maintenance activities; all while ensuring safe, reliable and efficient plant operations/power generation.
You will contribute to our team by:
- Translating company/plant goals into Group tactical plans and goals. Manages maintenance and inventory to produce the strategic reliability goals at the optimum long-term maintenance costs.
- Setting high and challenging productivity and quality standards for self and work group; encouraging new ideas and work methods to lower costs and increase productivity, quality and safety.
- Ensuring coordination of group activities with plant Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist as needed to maintain compliance regarding work-related EHS issues, and uses sound risk based decisions to achieve corporate EHS targets.
- Assuring safe, timely and efficient resolution of problems to return systems and equipment to ready-to-run condition and meet system operability needs.
- Accountable for ensuring the equipment reliability and capacity is achieved to meet the plant commitments. Responsible for providing equipment reliability required to achieve performance factors in the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) plan at the lowest possible costs.
- Being accountable for managing all maintenance related supplier relationships including, but not limited to, craft labor, predictive maintenance services, specialized services, and qualified repair companies.
- Being responsible for coordination and planning activities associated with the Long-Term Service Agreement (LTSA) including major maintenance planning on covered equipment.
- Ensuring work group activities are performed on time and within budget through effective planning, organizing, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities and utilization of resources.
- Implements appropriate change recommendations of company leadership team and identifies improvements and capital projects associated with work scope.
- Accountable for the development of long range maintenance plans for major equipment based on sound engineering practices and OEM recommendations for the plant life cycle. Also responsible for developing and updating life cycle of plant major maintenance plan for all major equipment.
- Prepares maintenance budget for the group. Projects and controls work group expenditures to maintain compliance with budgeted funds.
- Monitors actual budget variances and justifies deviations.
- Directs outage planning and scheduling of maintenance to assure thorough investigation of each request, determining material needs and other prerequisites such as equipment/tools needed, workforce needs, and procedures required.
- Promptly and fairly resolves any personnel or work-related problems. Utilizes the Performance Management program to provide performance feedback to employees.
- Utilize Maximo (CMMS) to plan, coordinate and schedule preventive maintenance as well as equipment repairs.
- Utilizes the CMMS for all maintenance work done and parts used so that accurate records can be maintained for future use.
- Responsible for the development of the identification of primary maintenance and equipment risks using sound engineering and reliability principles. Takes ownership and leadership in developing long term inspection and mitigation strategies
- Uses learning’s and changes over time to build or update the comprehensive maintenance schedule for all major/critical equipment.
- Responsible for developing and monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for plant and educating plant staff in the understanding of the measures.
- Takes ownership of the inventory management at the facility and works to ensure there costs are balances with risk in defining and maintaining inventory levels. Ensures safe work practices and procedures are observed.
- Represents the company/plant in a professional and positive manner in all internal and external contacts. Maintains effective community and public relations image of Owner and Company.
- Understands changes and communicates effectively with team members.
- Maintains a productive and motivated staff through sound human resource management and the enforcement of personnel policies.
- Set individual expectations for team. Responsible for ensuring performance reviews take place as directed by HR policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring that the maintenance staff is recruited, selected and trained as required to meet the long-term operational needs of the facility.
- Provides feedback and oversight to inventory personnel in order to ensure proper tools and materials are available to keep the plant running at an optimum level.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
- Completed Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree or advanced trade certificate.
- Other equivalencies may be considered such as significant experience along with Associates Degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or journeyman tradesperson.
- Certification as a Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) preferred.
Skills and Experience
- 10+ years working in maintenance with four to six years related experience leading (or assisting leading) maintenance work at a power generation site, preferably at combined cycle power plant. Heavy industrial plant experience will be considered.
- Managing workers in a Unionized environment.
- Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant maintenance operations.
- Demonstrates the ability to make competent decisions in emergency situations.
- Capable of writing maintenance procedures, work requests, and purchase requisitions.
- Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and Piping & Instrument Drawings.
- Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.
- Act as a role model for quality work, safety and work ethic.
- Perform root cause Analysis and reporting.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and stairs.
