Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Automation Engineer to join the HTS (High-Temperature Superconductor) department, dedicated to the development of new wide-tape HTS materials. These materials will play a key role in the success of our project as essential components of superconducting magnets for fusion energy, but they can also be deployed for other non-fusion-related applications.
In this context, you will be involved in the design, implementation, and maintenance of software for the physical vapor deposition (PVD) and chemical vapor deposition (CVD) machines developed by Renaissance Fusion.
Your main responsibilities will be:
*Automation activities
- Design, build, test, debug and maintain control software and hardware using Beckhoff / TwinCAT and Structured Text (ST) to meet machine operational requirements for roll-to-roll, PVD, CVD & polishing systems and film characterization instruments
- Propose and implement improvements to automation hardware and software, based on process characterization and HTS tape performance data.
- Write technical specifications for control automation equipment and operation.
- Participate in the commissioning of new equipment in collaboration with process engineers.
- Contribute to improvements in process control of PVD and CVD machines and in-house HTS characterization of wide tapes.
- Develop novel solutions and contribute to new intellectual property.
*Documentation and training
- Provide high-quality documentation of system control designs and user manuals.
- Document testing and debug activities.
- Train users.
*Scientific communication and monitoring
- Prepare scientific reports (presentations, posters, etc.) and represent Renaissance Fusion to scientific conferences and workshops
- Participate in the writing of scientific papers
- Remain on the lookout for any scientific developments in his/her field of expertise
- If needed, supervise interns
Requirements
Do not hesitate to apply if you don’t meet all the requirements. Superheroes don’t exist, but people with talent and passion do!
*Education and professional experience
- PhD or Master’s degree + equivalent experience in automation, or robotics, computer science, electrical engineering, control engineering or a related topic
- 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering of complex industrial systems
- Previous experience in the semiconductor and/or superconductor industry and/or in designing physical and/or chemical deposition machines is a plus
Languages
- Fluent in English (C1)
- Knowledge (B1 or higher) of French is a plus
Technical skills
- Programming of PLCs, HMIS, GPIB ports, serial communication, Arduino boards etc.
- Knowledge of Beckhoff / TwinCat and Structured Text (ST) or another technology such as Ladder, FBD, SFC, or Grafcet
- Knowledge of Labview, Python, or Matlab Simulink is a plus.
