What you’ll do:

Northland Power’s accounting team runs a CPA Pre-Approved Program for its full-time CPA student hires.  Experience gained in this role is expected to qualify when submitted through the CPA experience verification program.

The Accounting Analyst Student will assist the Financial Reporting team in quarterly reporting preparation, analysis, and review tasks.  You will be exposed to a variety of accounting work (entries, reconciliation, analysis), public company reporting, and financial systems.

This role would ideally start in May 2025 for either 4 or 8 months.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of consolidation journal entries impacting balance sheet and income statement.
  • Assist in the preparation, analysis, and review of inter/intracompany eliminations 
  • Assist corporate accounting team on month-closing activities 
  • Assist in preparing the quarterly and annual external Financial Statements and MD&A. Primary tasks include, but are not limited to:
  • Preparing the analysis of various financial statements line items, and other supporting schedules.
  • Preparing the calculations and reconciliations on non-IFRS measures
  • Supporting the financial reporting team on technical accounting assessments.
  • Validating data from the consolidation tool and proofing out calculations to ensure consolidated numbers are accurate and complete.
  • Support internal and external audit and Ad Hoc Projects.

  • You build relationships, seek diverse perspectives, leverage effective communication, and encourage cross-functional sharing of information

Qualifications and experience 

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint), strong Excel skills, and enjoy learning new software applications
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a university or college degree, preferably in a business field such as Accounting, Finance - Must have completed or be completing their third year of study
  • Previous internship/co-op or experience in Financial Reporting, Accounting, Consolidation, Tax (etc.) is preferred but not required
  • Experience with Workday a bonus
