JOB OVERVIEW

Working in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations: On a shift or day basis, perform basic service trades duties.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Responsibilities are consistent with training and experience for performing basic technical operations. In accordance with prescribed safety procedures and regulations, performs routine general technician duties:

  • Accountable for the health, safety and well-being of self and others, in accordance with procedures and standards.
  • Complete training to become a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW).
  • Participate in pre-job briefings and post-job debriefings on radiological and conventional safety aspects.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, permits, license requirements and procedures. Ensure proper and functional personal protective equipment, dose monitoring devices, communication equipment.
  • Provide radiation protection services to internal and external staff who are not qualified to provide self-protection.
  • Review hazards and conduct surveys to confirm hazard levels to ensure that all radiological conditions and material being processed are within Radiation Exposure Permit (REP) limits.
  • Conduct routine radiation surveys, document findings to support regulatory requirements of the radiation safety program and operational updated surveys based on site requirements and procedures. 
  • Perform sorting and segregation of Low-Level Radioactive Waste to reduce overall volume of material utilizing strict procedural use and adherence.  Material is manually manipulated and required proper body mechanics, ergonomic lifting techniques and the utilization of tooling to assist in the process.  This role is physically demanding.
  • Perform material release surveys utilizing strict procedural use and adherence.
  • Document all required research data collected through processing of material with strict attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Place barriers and post-hazard warning as required by location or by material being processed. Evaluate survey results, identify areas where hazard controls need to be adjusted or additional radiation protection measures are required.

EXPERIENCE

We are seeking dynamic and results-driven professionals who have:

 

  • Minimum Qualifications: Grade 12, or equivalent.
  • Must obtain the Nuclear Energy Worker qualification.
  • Specialized Training in Radiation Protection, or equivalent.
