Position Overview: Run On Climate is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering local-level climate action across the country. We are committed to building the climate movement from the ground up by electing climate champions to local office and advancing bold local-level climate policies. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Policy Associate to support our policy research, design, and implementation efforts. In this role, you will conduct comprehensive research on local climate policies, contribute to the development of effective climate strategies, and assist in the management of key policy programs. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a passion for climate activism and a keen interest in policy work to make a tangible impact.

Compensation: $19/hr.


Employment Type: Part-time (15 hours/week). Opportunity to increase to full time in coming months.

Location: Remote 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Research and Analysis:

    1. Conduct in-depth research on local climate policies and environmental trends.

    2. Analyze policy data and prepare detailed reports to support the Policy Director in strategy development.

    3. Monitor emerging policy developments and assess their potential impact on local climate initiatives.

  2. Program Support:

    1. Assist in managing the Local Climate Policy Network, including coordinating communications and stakeholder engagements.

    2. Support the administration of the Focal Cities Program and Policy Intern Program.

    3. Help develop and update key local climate policy resources and strategy documents.

  3. Collaboration and Outreach:

    1. Work closely with team members and the Policy Director to identify opportunities for impactful local climate initiatives.

    2. Engage with local climate policy leaders and organizations to expand our network and foster collaborative efforts.

    3. Contribute to the design and execution of local policy strategies that drive measurable climate action.

  4. Administrative Support:

    1. Maintain organized records of research findings, meeting notes, and program documentation.

    2. Assist in the preparation of presentations and policy briefs for internal and external stakeholders.

Desired Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Experience in policy research, analysis, or advocacy is highly desirable.

  • Strong research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and report writing.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to engage professionally with a diverse range of stakeholders, including local government officials, community leaders, and nonprofit partners.

  • High level of organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

  • Comfortable using digital tools and platforms (e.g., Google Suite, research databases, and collaboration software).

  • Familiarity with policy development processes and local government operations is a plus.
