RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strong technical climate change skills
- In-depth understanding of carbon accounting fundamentals including familiarity with the GHG Protocol.
- Deep understanding of the technical and financial dimensions of several decarbonization technologies which may include energy efficiency, renewables, storage, electric vehicles, land use / sequestration and/or industrial processes.
- Expertise in quantitative modelling including the ability to develop net zero pathways, develop emissions projections and calculate emissions abatement from specific decarbonization opportunities.
- Perform quantitative analyses using both standard Excel-based tools and more bespoke modeling platforms. Utilize existing models, repurpose existing models to new tasks, and build new models where necessary.
- Support development of climate change strategy and action planning including client communications and stakeholder engagements.
- Distils complexity from detail to effectively coach colleagues to deliver high-quality outputs.
Managing Clients and Projects
- Demonstrates strong project management skills and oversight through the project lifecycle, including scoping, budget and delivery.
- Builds strong and trusted relationships with clients and/or business partners and effectively manages a wide range of stakeholders.
- Thinks strategically in order to influence decision-makers and outcomes.
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills, excellent writing and presentation skills, and a mastery of impactful client communication.
Teamwork and Organization
- Demonstrates strong people management skills; particularly the ability to support, coach and celebrate others in order to advance employee engagement and achieve results.
- Mentor junior and mid-level staff in the proper planning and execution of projects, and in directing or conducting independent technical reviews of deliverable work products.
- Manages a team of junior project managers and consultants.
- Identifies, evaluates, cultivates and manages partnerships and relationships with senior clients, external stakeholders and key opinion leaders.
- Effectively collaborates internally to bring our services to existing clients.
- Enhances ERM’s capability to sell and deliver Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change services.
Business Development Activities
- Support the general growth and development of ERM’s energy and climate change services. Collaborate with other ERM practitioners to execute energy and climate change projects, including participating on teams comprised of energy and climate change professionals from multiple offices around North America and the globe.
- Supports Account Management teams in meeting sales goals.
- Supports new business development campaigns, proposals and pitches.
- Collaborate with our Sustainability Strategy & Disclosure services, Transactions, Digital Services, and other practice areas to provide integrated solutions to our clients.
- Actively support cross selling of other services to existing clients.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, energy policy, economics, or other relevant disciplines. Master of Science preferred.
- Experience in developing carbon inventories and modelling decarbonization pathways.
- 6+ years (10+ years preferred) of relevant work experience in a related field, whether that be in consultancy, industry, government or academia.
- Experience and confidence to lead and grow business in a dynamic market environment.
- Strong analytical skills, ability to think strategically, analyze and synthesize diverse qualitative and quantitative data and information.
- Attention to detail and commitment to deliver high-quality work products.
- Demonstrated project management and leadership skills.
- Experience of line management and/or contributing to the professional development of others.
- Structured and effective communicator that can shape and deliver messages to executive level and facilitate effective client engagements.
- Enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and a desire to work in a growing team.
- Ability to work well with a range of stakeholders, including diverse project teams and client contacts.
- Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently, articulate issues and recommend solutions.
- High-level proficiency in use of Microsoft Office programs. In addition to expertise with complicated Excel formulas, pivot tables, etc., the ability to present information succinctly and visually in PowerPoint is required.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to build, coach, and mentor collaborative teams.
