The role

We are seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer (Flooding) wishing to further develop a long-term career with an industry leader.  You will work closely with our other specialists in the Water Resources team predominantly on Victorian projects, however you will also support the wider ANZ business.

SMEC’s Water Resources team works across a diverse portfolio of projects including flood studies, flood mitigation projects, dam break and consequence studies, urban development stormwater management and irrigation. We have a solid pipeline of interesting and challenging projects and an excellent team culture where you will further develop broad capabilities. 

With a minimum of 5+ years’ experience, your core responsibilities include:

  • Conduct flood studies and assessments including the impact of flood mitigation options.
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modelling using RORB and TUFLOW.
  • Ensure that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC
  • Proactively collaborate with appropriate team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and coordination of project deliverables
  • Apply project management principles in carrying out assigned tasks and accomplish project deliverables to the required standard in a timely manner.

With a track record of achievement in a similar role, you will have gained your experience in an engineering design consultancy and have a passion for building trusted relationships to drive positive change and win new work.

Suitable applicants will have/be:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering
  • Experienced with a range of modelling software including TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, RAFTS and RORB.
  • A Minimum of 5+ years' experience in design and management.
  • Familiar with relevant Australian Standards.
  • Be able to lead small teams to get desirable project outcomes
  • To have or be working towards obtaining CPEng status
