The role

We are seeking a Graduate Engineer – Water Resources who wishes to develop a long-term career with an industry leader working on surface water related projects. 

You will work closely with our specialists in the Water Resources team predominantly on Victorian projects, however you will also support the wider ANZ business. SMEC’s Water Resources team works across a diverse portfolio of projects including flood studies, flood mitigation projects, dam break and consequence studies, urban development stormwater management and irrigation.

We have a solid pipeline of interesting and challenging projects and an excellent team culture where you will develop broad capabilities and be mentored by industry leaders.

You will have an understanding of the key principles of hydrology, flood modelling, and/or water resources and assist with;

  • Conducting flood studies and assessments including the impact of flood mitigation options.
  • Water balance modelling, hydrologic and hydraulic modelling.
  • Communicating regularly and effectively with other project team members

Suitable applicants will have/be;

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering or equivalent
  • Familiar with modelling software including hydrological modelling, 2D Tuflow, HecRas and RORB modelling
  • Well-developed time management skills when provided with task timelines and budgets
  • The ability to write reports and communicate effectively within a diverse and multi-disciplinary environment
  • Some exposure to 12D or Drains stormwater assessments
