Diesel Maintenance Technician – Virginia State Inspector – Fairfax
Transdev in Fairfax County is seeking a Diesel Mechanic Virginia State Inspector to bolster our team. This role demands expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines across various vehicles and equipment. As a Diesel Mechanic and Virginia State Inspector, you'll play a crucial role in ensuring safety, efficiency, and longevity for our vehicles.

Position Subject to Collective Bargaining Agreement:
- Hourly rate varies based on experience, as required by Collective Bargaining Agreement
- $25.90 for C-Tech experience ($27.45 on 12/1/25)
- $32.31 for B-Tech experience ($34.25 on 12/1/25)
- $43.40 for A-Tech experience ($46.02 on 12/1/25)

Key Responsibilities:
- Performs State Inspections per Safety Inspection Manual
- Drain and replace fluids / filters.
- Lubricate chassis and steering
- Remove and install wheels / tires.
- Inspect multiple systems on transit buses for defects.
- Diagnose and replace minor electrical components such as lights and switches.
- Remove and replace suspension or drivetrain components.
- Test drive vehicles after repairs.
Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic.
- ASE certifications required; ASE certification program provided
- Must be able to read and comprehend service manuals, work orders, and follow instructions.
- Mechanic’s Tool Set
- Subject to a DOT drug testing and physical if applicable. DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 does not authorize the use of Schedule I drugs, including cannabis, for any reason.
- Diesel Mechanics must possess a CDL license or permit with air brakes and passenger endorsement. If Diesel Mechanic has only a valid driver’s permit, he/she will be required to obtain a current and valid CDL license with air brakes and passenger endorsement within ninety (90) calendar days of being hired.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as needed.
- The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
- Work environment will be a combination of both indoors and outdoors.
