POSITION – Union: Corrosion Technician
NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1
LOCATION: CT - East Hartford - Meadow St
HOURLY RATE: $44.02 - $51.71
Responsibilities:
Responsible to not only work safely, but to promote a safe work ethic and behavior.
Responsible to perform and interpret required readings (i.e. annual test points, isolated services, casings, bonds, foreign crossings) in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and procedures.
Responsible for timely cathodic protection troubleshooting (i.e. low systems, shorted conditions)
Responsible for timely creation of remediation work orders (i.e. install anodes, clear short, install insulator, repair / replace test station). Follows through with necessary departments to ensure timely completion.
Works closely with peers from other utilities to maintain CP at franchise gate stations.
Responsible for performance of QA checks on reads performed by others
Responsible for troubleshooting and maintenance of rectifiers
Responsible for maintenance of tools and equipment.
Responsible for atmospheric inspections for bridge crossings, above ground piping that is dept. responsibility, or other exposed piping a needed in accordance with procedures.
Understands use of unique equipment and tools used purposely for Cathodic Protection
measures.
Provides corrosion control-related support to other Departments as needed for maintenance / repair.
Participates as needed in regulatory audits to ensure success.
Transmission and / or High-Pressure Distribution gas mains:
Performs annual CIS of scheduled piping.
Works with Engineering on annual testing of scheduled HCA piping.
Works with R.O.W. crews with follow up investigations or maintenance.
Works closely with peers from other utilities to maintain CP at franchise gate stations.
Responds to arcing or stray voltage conditions on gas lines.
Assist with troubleshooting responsibilities as required by Corrosion control Supervisor.
Skills and Requirements:
Education:
High School/GED with the completion of the relevant progression program and 2 years relevant experience required.
Valid driver’s license
NACE CP1 (Cathodic Protection Tester) or greater.
Related Work Experience:
Past experience with use of hand tools
Gas Pipeline experience
Troubleshooting experience
2 years field work of pipeline cathodic protection / corrosion control
Successful completion of all current Operational Qualifications.
Required Specific Skills & Knowledge:

Ability to read Infrastructure mapping and/or electric schematics

Proficient in use of Company computer systems
Knowledge and concepts of Electrical Theory

CP design skills
Ability to interpret engineer designs.
Understands the concepts of rectifiers and ground bed replacement.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Frequent local travel with occasional out of town requirements.
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Work Environment:
The ability to work in both office and field environments.
May work near or with moving mechanical parts.
Will be exposed to varying outdoor weather conditions.
May be exposed to excessive noise.
Frequent interaction with other employees.
Frequent interaction with customers.
