Job Description

The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.

 

NRDC seeks a Program Assistant (PA) to support two (2) directors, and several other career advocates of the Healthy People and Thriving Communities Program. The Program Assistant will be primarily responsible for administrative coordination, programmatic support, and project management on issues related to federal & local policy - equity, infrastructure, transportation, housing, and land-use. The position requires very strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple tasks and complex schedules.

Responsibilities

Provide administrative, project management, coordination, and logistic support to policy advocates in the Washington, DC - Regional Division including:

  • Coordinate the administration of projects such as, but not limited to, tracking progress, ensuring projects are running smoothly, and moving in a timely fashion to meet deliverables
  • Communicate project statuses adequately to all participants
  • Ensure project documentation distribution, and that repository is current and updated
  • Produce visual and written documentation to support project initiatives, including process flows, organizational and project plans.
  • Gather data, research, and provide content support related to special projects and initiatives.
  • Assist in communication flow between various stakeholder and members of the federal and SPARCC initiative project team as appropriate
  • Work staff to arrange regular meetings, preparing agendas and materials as well as ensuring actions are tracked and followed up
  • Track budgets for the initiatives and coordinating budget with finance, development and leadership within the division and program.
  • Coordinate contracts, grant agreements and invoices with legal, finance and other departments.
  • Lead and manage special projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent work experience
  • Strong writing, analytical, and research abilities
  • Possess strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience, including project management experience
  • Competent Expert in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Resourceful, ability to manage multiple tasks, project, and ability to adapt
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to manage different working styles
  • Ability to work independently and within a team across a diverse set of perspectives
  • A passion to learn and improve, always looking to bring something new and helpful approaches
  • Knowledge of excel spreadsheets, database management, and experience with budget tracking is preferred
  • Minimum two-year commitment

Job grade for this role is Builds 3 with a salary ranging from a minimum of $55,000.00 and midpoint of $57,600.00.  Internal equity considerations and the average salary of the peer range will be reviewed before making a final offer.
