Job Purpose

The Configuration Manager leads the implementation and oversight of the configuration management processes as we scale from prototype to production. This position ensures consistency and traceability across hardware, software, and firmware configurations. This role closely works with engineering, manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to ensure controlled, auditable, and reliable releases.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the end-to-end configuration management process for mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software components of our linear generator Power Core and Power Module system.

  • Establish and maintain baseline configurations for beta, production, and R&D units.

  • Manage source control systems (Teamcenter, Jira, etc.) and ensure proper versioning across all released artifacts.

  • Create and maintain the configuration item (CI) database, including part numbers, BOMs, change orders, and design documentation.

  • Work closely with engineering and supply chain to implement and control engineering change request/notices (ECR/ECNs) and release procedures.

  • Support traceability, rollback strategies, and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO 9001 or similar quality frameworks).

  • Coordinate configuration status accounting and audits to ensure production units match approved configurations.

  • Collaborate with DevOps/IT to ensure secure, version-controlled storage of firmware and software releases.

  • Support the integration of PLM/ERP systems to align documentation and part traceability.

Qualifications include:

  • Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, or related field) or a relevant technical discipline.

  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle stages: prototype, beta, pilot, production.

  • 4-7 years of experience in configuration management, ideally within hardware + software product environments.

  • Experience in manufacturing or hardware startups, especially automotive, clean tech, energy, or industrial system

  • Skills and Abilities 

    • Experience in manufacturing or hardware startups, especially automotive, clean tech, energy, or industrial systems

  • Hands-on experience with configuration tools and systems (e.g., Git, Jira, SolidWorks PDM, Arena, Windchill, etc.).

  • Familiarity with BOM management, ECR/ECN processes, and hardware change control.

  • Excellent organizational and documentation skills, with attention to traceability and compliance.

  • Comfortable working cross-functionally in fast-paced startup environments.

Role Classification and Working Conditions

This is a salaried, exempt-level position. This position typically works in an office environment; and given the nature of our business is also exposed to operations/warehouses/production environments.

Travel/Other Requirements

  • Ability to travel, as needed, by plane, automobile, etc.

  • 30-50% travel to Ohio if based in Texas
