Join us in powering North America!Your Opportunity One Permanent Full Time Position.Capital Power is seeking a seasoned Trader to lead our activities in the Western U.S. power and natural gas markets. This position is well-suited for a strategic and results-oriented leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about optimizing natural gas power plant operations and advancing trading strategies.The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing market strategies, managing risk, and driving profitability across key trading hubs.You will contribute to our team by: <ul><li>Developing hedging strategies for Capital Power’s WECC and CAISO asset portfolio of gas generation facilities.</li><li>Creating and executing speculative power and gas trading strategies for physical and financial markets.</li><li>Managing relationships with counterparties, customers and brokers, including the negotiation of master agreements, EMAs and AMAs where applicable.</li><li>Leading and guiding a team of traders, promoting a collaborative and high-performance culture.</li><li>Analyzing Western power and gas markets to identify trends, opportunities, and risks.</li><li>Applying risk management practices to mitigate losses and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.</li><li>Monitoring hedging and trading performance, and provide reports to senior management.</li><li>Collaborating with Operations, Risk Management, and Finance departments to support trading activities.</li><li>Staying updated on industry developments to improve strategies and processes.</li></ul>What you will bring to the role:    Education: <ul><li>Bachelor's degree in finance, engineering, mathematics, computer science, or related field with a solid academic record.</li></ul>Experience:<ul><li>10+ years of experience in physical and financial power trading with strong knowledge of delta hedging strategies, Western US power and gas term markets and risk management.</li></ul>Technical Skills:<ul><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for interpreting complex data and making decisions.</li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective teamwork.</li></ul>Working Conditions:<ul><li>Hybrid Office/Work from home position, with possible very minimal travel to meet business users at Capital Power facilities or other offices.</li></ul>Additional Details:This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.In order to be considered for this role you must be legally eligible to work in Canada.The successful candidate for this position will undergo an education verification, reference checks and criminal record check.               Capital Power employees that refer a successful candidate for this position are eligible for a $1500 Referral Reward!We believe that creating a culture that supports employee physical, mental, financial, and social wellbeing is critical to our success.
