Position SummaryPeak Energy is accelerating the transition to clean, reliable energy through advanced energy storage systems. We are seeking a Controller to be the first dedicated accounting leader at Peak and build our finance infrastructure from the ground up. This role will be hands-on in the near term — taking ownership of the close process, supporting our ERP implementation, and preparing for our initial financial audit — while also laying the foundation for a scalable, best-in-class accounting organization.The ideal candidate is a technically strong, process-minded accounting leader who thrives in fast-growing, entrepreneurial environments and is motivated by the opportunity to design and own the accounting function end to end. Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Build the Accounting Function<ul><li>Establish internal accounting operations previously managed by external providers, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, and reconciliations.</li><li>Define the accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls that will support the company’s next stage of growth.</li><li>Design and implement scalable processes to support manufacturing, project development, and capital asset activities.</li><li>Develop the company’s first monthly close process with clear timelines, responsibilities, and accuracy standards.</li></ul></li><li>Financial Reporting &amp; Audit Readiness<ul><li>Prepare and own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.</li><li>Manage the company’s first external audit process, establishing documentation standards and audit-ready controls.</li><li>Develop and maintain chart of accounts, closing checklists, and standard reporting templates.</li></ul></li><li>ERP Implementation &amp; Systems<ul><li>Serve as finance lead for implementation of the company’s first ERP system (e.g., NetSuite).</li><li>Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, and Engineering to ensure accounting and operational data flow seamlessly.</li><li>Create systems for tracking inventory, fixed assets, and capital project spend in coordination with other departments.</li></ul></li><li>Capital Expenditure &amp; Project Accounting<ul><li>Implement processes for capital purchases, including purchase order review, asset capitalization, and depreciation policies.</li><li>Work with the project development and operations teams to ensure accurate accounting for construction-in-progress, intercompany allocations, and project costs.</li><li>Support FP&amp;A and leadership in translating financial results into actionable insights.</li></ul></li><li>Team &amp; Growth<ul><li>Build and lead a small but high-performing accounting team over time as the company scales.</li><li>Mentor and develop future team members while maintaining a hands-on approach in the early stages.</li><li>Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency, visibility, and control across financial operations.</li></ul></li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required.</li><li>7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience in-house at a growing company.</li><li>Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control design.</li><li>Experience leading ERP implementations or major system transitions.</li><li>Strong technical skills paired with willingness to be hands-on in the details.</li><li>Experience in manufacturing, clean energy, or capital project–intensive industries preferred.</li><li>Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.</li></ul>Preferred Experience<ul><li>Prior experience building an accounting function from scratch or leading through a transition from outsourced to in-house accounting.</li><li>Exposure to inventory, cost accounting, and project-based accounting.</li><li>Experience preparing for or managing a first-time financial audit.</li></ul>The salary range for this role is $190,000 - $225,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.
