At Hitachi Global Air Power, you’ll be part of a global network that’s shaping the future of industrial power.Summary of the position:The Mechanical Engineer - Sustaining Engineering is responsible for supporting existing products throughout their lifecycle by resolving production, supplier, and field issues; driving product quality, reliability, and cost improvements; and supporting new product introductions. This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot technical issues, implement engineering changes, improve manufacturability, and ensure products meet customer, quality, and business objectives.Duties and responsibilities:<ul><li>Support existing products by resolving production, test cell, supplier, field, and customer issues to improve product quality, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.</li><li>Provide timely engineering support to Manufacturing, Quality, Customer Service, Procurement, and Supply Chain by resolving technical issues, conducting root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions, and minimizing production downtime.</li><li>Drive Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VAVE), cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining product performance, quality, reliability, safety, and regulatory compliance.</li><li>Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, BOMs, specifications, and engineering changes, ensuring accuracy, configuration control, and timely implementation.</li><li>Support sourcing initiatives by evaluating the technical feasibility of new components, alternate suppliers, and engineering changes.</li><li>Represent Sustaining Engineering on New Product Development (NPD) projects by participating in design reviews, component selection, manufacturability assessments, and successful product launches.</li><li>Manage assigned projects and engineering activities by meeting deadlines, communicating project status, and escalating technical issues or risks as needed.</li><li>Travel up to 5% to support suppliers, manufacturing facilities, customer sites, field investigations, and product validation activities.</li></ul>Qualifications:Education:<ul><li>BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (required).</li></ul>Professional experience: <ul><li>Minimum 3 years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment and/or product engineering.</li><li>3D modeling/CAD experience desired.  Proficiency in Siemens NX is a plus.</li><li>Experience with SAP ERP/PLM systems is a plus.</li><li>Experience with industrial rotating equipment is a plus.</li></ul>Key behaviors:<ul><li>Results driven – focus on project technical, cost and timing goals.</li></ul><ul><li>Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.</li><li>Strong attention to detail and sense of ownership.</li><li>Sense of urgency to complete tasks.</li><li>Creativity, willing to explore new designs and methods.</li></ul>Direct reports:<ul><li>N/A</li></ul>The successful candidate is responsible for complying with Hitachi Global Air Power US Code of Ethics and related policies.
