Job Description:<h1>Senior Principal Power Electronics Engineer</h1><h2>Position Summary</h2>We are seeking a Senior Principal Power Electronics Engineer to serve as a technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the development of advanced, grid-connected power conversion systems.This is an expert hands-on individual-contributor role requiring deep technical expertise, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to influence complex cross-functional programs. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across system requirements, magnetic component design, hardware architecture, validation, certification, and technology commercialization. The role does not include direct people-management responsibilities, but requires leadership through technical expertise, influence, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration.The role will work closely with global engineering teams and cross-functional partners to develop reliable, safe, manufacturable, and certifiable power conversion products. <h2>Key Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Refine and manage system-level electrical requirements for advanced power conversion systems.</li><li>Provide technical leadership and expert guidance across power electronics architecture and design activities.</li><li>Lead the design, analysis, simulation, and optimization of coupled inductors and other magnetic components.</li><li>Participate in and provide technical leadership during schematic, PCB, and hardware design reviews.</li><li>Develop and review electrical, functional, environmental, reliability, and performance validation plans.</li><li>Analyze test results, identify root causes, and recommend design improvements or corrective actions.</li><li>Serve as a technical SME for Design for Certification, including UL, IEC, and other applicable standards and regulatory requirements.</li><li>Support the technical maturation of emerging power conversion technologies from research and development through product commercialization.</li><li>Collaborate with firmware, controls, mechanical, thermal, systems, test, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and program management teams.</li><li>Provide technical direction and mentorship to engineers without assuming formal people-management responsibilities.</li><li>Evaluate technical risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate status and recommendations to engineering and program leadership.</li><li>Support supplier and external-partner technical engagement, including design reviews, issue resolution, and technology evaluation.</li><li>Contribute to engineering processes, design methodologies, and technical standards that improve product quality and development efficiency.</li></ul><h2>Required Qualifications</h2><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.</li><li>15+ years of experience in power electronics or power conversion product development.</li><li>Deep experience with high-power, grid-connected systems such as solar inverters, energy storage systems, industrial power supplies, motor drives, or related applications.</li><li>Strong understanding of power conversion topologies, magnetic components, switching devices, control interfaces, electrical insulation, and system-level design considerations.</li><li>Demonstrated experience designing or developing coupled inductors, transformers, reactors, or other high-power magnetic components.</li><li>Experience with electrical simulation and analysis tools for power electronics and magnetic components.</li><li>Experience leading or contributing to schematic, PCB, hardware, and system design reviews.</li><li>Demonstrated experience developing and executing comprehensive hardware validation and qualification plans.</li><li>Strong knowledge of product safety, certification, and regulatory requirements, including relevant UL and IEC standards.</li><li>Experience identifying certification requirements and integrating them into product design and development activities.</li><li>Experience with utility-scale or high-power three-phase power conversion systems.</li><li>Experience transitioning emerging technologies from R&amp;D into production or commercial products.</li><li>Demonstrated ability to lead technically complex projects through influence and cross-functional collaboration.</li><li>Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.</li></ul> At Nextpower, we are driving the global energy transition with an integrated clean energy technology platform that combines intelligent structural, electrical, and digital solutions for utility-scale power plants.
