Job Description

Here at Modern Meadow, we are harnessing the power of design, biology, and engineering to produce biofabricated materials. Applying the latest tools of biotechnology, we are creating a new type of materials company. As we continue to grow, we are seeking to hire a Senior Product Development Lead.

Overview:
This is a key role for our product development team that is responsible for working closely with our business development team to define and create the next family of ZOA materials.  Product development at Modern Meadow starts with understanding the customer and markets to determine the performance, look and feel of the product and taking personal ownership to create the products complete with partnering to scale up the product in our commercial production facility.  These fast-paced activities are the foundation for our growing product lines and requires someone who loves being with customers and returning to the lab to make it all happen.

Responsibilities:

  • Participates in defining product characteristics including cost, mechanical properties, surface durability, texture, color, visual depth, hand feel, haptic, composition and end of life performance requirements.
  • End- to- end product development accountability with responsibilities for developing complex materials that meet all product characteristics to define material creation instructions at a laboratory scale including all analytical methods.
  • Partners with process engineers and the quality team to translate lab processes and material characteristics defined during product development into continuous roll to roll production that includes critical criteria associated with composition, performance, aesthetics and haptics.
  • Responsible for partnering with the quality function to define product performance criteria, testing methods, and acceptable ranges of performance.
  • Responsible for final sign off of standard operating procedures, analytical methods, release specifications and BOM for all products they create.
  • Responsible for working closely with sourcing and logistics to define, locate and validate all raw materials used in the developed products, including defining any key acceptance criteria and COA information.

Requirements:

  • BS in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, Chemistry or similar professional experience
  • Minimum 5-10 years developing products at progressive levels of complexity with experience working directly with Mills to produce, develop and sign-off on final product.
  • Prior experience working with customers to define and develop products

Other Skills (nice to have but not required):

  • MS in Textile Engineering, Textile Technology, Chemistry or similar professional experience
  • 10+ years guiding teams in developing textile-based products
