About Haven Energy

Haven Energy is a well-funded, seed-stage startup focused on accelerating the adoption of home energy storage through a two-sided marketplace model.  We believe that widespread, distributed storage will be a key part of our energy future, helping stabilize the electric grid in the face of increasing climate change-induced weather events, an aging transmission and distribution infrastructure and increased electric loads due to home electrification.  For homeowners, on-site storage will help prevent blackouts, reduce residential electricity costs and provide a level of energy independence and security.

With our two-sided marketplace model, Haven guides homeowners through the selection, quoting, financing and scheduling of a home battery system install, and we pair homeowners with vetted, qualified electricians to perform the installation.  We offer a phenomenal experience for both the homeowners and the installers, as both are key to our long term success. 

Summary of Role

Haven is seeking a General Manager (GM), for the Southern California market. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to lead the operations and strategy for your region with local decision making authority and the opportunity to build your own team. We are building a new category of business in the home electrification space and firmly believe that our success and differentiation will be tightly linked to our ability to uniquely understand local customer needs, build an efficient local growth engine (based on insights you’ll discover), and operate a top notch local installer network.

As Haven’s first GM hire, you will be an entrepreneur, building the playbook for others to follow through field tested tactics you’ll design, develop and put in action yourself. In this role, you will be at the forefront of advancing clean energy adoption by building Haven’s first launch market from the ground up.

The ideal candidate loves to wear many different hats and is constantly learning. It requires a highly versatile and well rounded leader, someone who can create and drive strategy but also roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty. It’s the intersection of leadership, analytics, creativeness, and problem solving that makes the Haven General Manager role an exciting and challenging job.

What you’ll do

  • Lead our Beta and Launch operations on the ground in Southern California

  • Be the local face of the business, engaging with local media, politicians and business leaders to advance Haven’s mission

  • Build the local growth model, developing local customer insights, designing and quickly testing strategies to acquire customers within your region 

  • Work highly cross functionally with internal and external teams from product to comms to ensure that the needs of your market are met

  • Build and manage a best-in-class installer network across the region 

  • Pull and analyze data to make informed decisions for region

  • Build and continually improve day to day operations processes

  • Own the P&L for your region, balancing growth vs profitability, driving down OpEx costs to achieve an efficient local operation

  • Hire, develop, motivate and lead your operations team of high-performing market builders and operators

  • Innovate at the local level, building MVPs and business cases that will help inform the company’s product roadmap

  • Be the local go to expert for anything and everything going on in your region

  • Communicate, negotiate and advocate for your region’s needs 

You’re a great fit if you

  • Have 8+ years of operations management, consulting, or entrepreneurship experience

  • Have built and managed high performing teams of 4+

  • Managed a P&L and exercised project and investment responsibility 

  • Have excellent communication and organization skills

  • Comfortable using digital project management and knowledge base tools for self led and team projects 

  • Have experience working within a fast paced environment where you have full ownership of successes and learnings

  • Have built and managed to OKRs 

  • Can pull data using SQL (or lightweight data access tool) and manipulate in spreadsheets to pull out actionable insights 

  • Enjoy interfacing with stakeholders from customers, to media, to electrical installers

  • Can easily flex between project plan execution details and longer term strategic thinking

  • Are excited about the climate tech space and building a more flexible grid while providing energy independence to customers

You’re an ever better fit, if you 

  • Have an MBA from top tier school

  • Have experience building a marketplace company and understand deeply marketplace dynamics 

  • Are a SQL ninja, and all major decisions are rooted in data support

  • Have managed a sales teams in a past role, understand the tools and processes required and how to motivate and drive sales

  • Are a top 1% relationship manager and the idea of being the face of the company for your region is endlessly exciting

  • Have experience building your own startup from the ground up

  • Have industry-specific experience in residential solar, energy storage, home electrification or other areas related to clean energy, sustainability and the circular economy.
