Position:  FP&A Intern  

Schedule: M-F, 9:00am – 5:00pm 

Summer 2023 Internship May - August 2023  

Pivot Bio is looking for a dynamic finance intern to join our Financial Planning & Analysis team headquartered in Berkeley, California. As a finance intern, you will be a key member of the team working with a highly visible and motivated group of R&D professionals. You will partner with key stakeholders to prepare budgets, forecasts, monthly financial analysis and reporting, and provide ad-hoc analysis for decision support purposes through the use of data driven insights.  

We are looking for a creative problem solver that is highly motivated, curious and technically proficient. The intern should show a strong sense of ownership and work ethic to deliver quality work on a daily basis. The individual should have a strong analytical background, be proactive and have the ability to improve business processes. Attention to detail is a must and ability to build strong relationships with finance and non-finance business partners. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assist manager with business team support in the annual operating plan and forecast process 
  • Assist in monthly variance analysis of actuals to budget and forecast, investigate any variances and understand business drivers 
  • Participate in monthly close process, and assist with monthly review meetings with business partners 
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and develop solution options 
  • Create financial models that will drive discussion and business decision-making 
  • Work with FP&A team to perform other critical projects and ad-hoc needs   

 Physical Demands: 

  • Routinely sitting and standing for extended periods of time 
  • Driving to office 
  • Occasionally lifting objects (15 lbs.) 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • 2-4 years experience in finance or related area 
  • MBA degree or working towards an MBA degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred 
  • Prior experience with financial modeling and analysis 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong MS Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office 
  • Experience with NetSuite, Adaptive Planning or other ERP systems preferred but not required
