Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

This role sits within our Energy Solutions Commercial team, helping facilitate delivery of Government initiatives such as the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, with the aim to help reduce carbon emissions,  tackle fuel poverty and drive a Net Zero future for all.

What will I be doing?

Working with new and existing clients you will be responsible for ensuring that the commercial activities within the business area are delivered to maximise revenue and profit, whilst ensuring that commercial risk is effectively managed by the appropriate delivery of client and contractor contracts. 

As an integral part of the project delivery team, you will lead from contract execution through to project close down and financial closure. This will involve monthly cost evaluation, risk and contract management, financial reporting and meeting set KPI’s 

The role will support other functions across the business area to ensure project deadlines are met, operational activity has commercial support and financial obligations are upheld. As part of this purpose you will ensure the wider drive of Plan Zero is fully embraced with company brand, ethics and members at the heart of everything you do.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist in establishing client's requirements and undertake feasibility studies to ensure their brief can be achieved within the given cost parameters
  • Prepare and analyse project costings for tenders in line with PAS20:30 standards
  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, PAS Retrofit design/assessments and/or architect input
  • Perform risk, value management and cost control during construction
  • Undertake cost analysis for any repair or maintenance project work
  • Identify, analyse and develop responses to commercial risks
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and disputes
  • Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use
  • Understand the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Understand, lead and support the development of relationships with main suppliers/contractors and liaise with points of contact on a project(s) / contract(s).
  • Maximise business cash flow by ensuring that all project documents are accurate, invoices/applications and payment certificates are processed effectively and efficiently each month on time and in full.
  • Liaise with peers to review best practice, lessons learned etc.
  • Negotiate and award Call Off Contracts in accordance with terms and provisions of Agreements. Managing the interface with suppliers/contractors and internal stakeholders to ensure value for money and appropriate commercial controls are embedded in all contracts. 
  • Support the business and colleagues with the delivery of the strategic objectives 
  • Manage all post contract commercial matters including negotiating/agreeing compensation events and ensure that the core principles of the Commercial Manual are being implemented.

 Commercial Performance

  • Create, track and maintain project revenue and margin throughout the project lifecycle
  • Quantify commercial impacts of decisions and the implications on procurement processes.
  • Monthly KPI’s include deadline achievement for payment certs, applications, invoicing and financial reporting. 
  • Support the wider Commercial team in securing contracts valued at an aggregated value of £45-50m p.a.
  • Contractor monthly performance reviews 
  • Project closeout

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will have:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Energy Efficiency or Regeneration / Construction, M&E or Renewable markets and its current events
  • 5 years’ experience in a Quantity Surveyors capacity 
  • Understanding of Government Policy around Clean Heat, Net Zero and fuel poverty alleviation such as: ECO, EESSH, HEEPS,
  • Self-motivated
  • Strong communication and IT fluency
  • Creative talents and the ability to solve tough problems
  • The ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines
  • Attention to detail
  • Excellent time management and organisation
  • Maintain and develop existing relationships
  • Liaise and attend meetings with other company functions necessary to perform duties and aid business and organisational development.
  • Attend training, industry exhibitions and client workshops to develop relevant knowledge and skills.

Decision Making Authority 

  • Create and develop a strategic approach in support of securing contracts across the UK
  • Selection of key external stakeholders to engage and develop a relationship with; with a view to securing contracts
  • First stage project evaluation and subsequent recommendation to the senior management team

We’ll pay you between £40,480 and £63,150, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us! We keep our pay ranges broad on purpose to give us, and you, flexibility to match your experience to our zero carbon mission.
