Where in the world of OVO will I be working?

Working within OVO’s Retail Tech department, this is an exciting opportunity to deliver platforms, services and data stores that underpin the operational side of the business. Whether you prefer application development, building data pipelines, transforming data, or working with data infrastructure in the cloud; we want to hear from you.

What will I be doing?

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, building and maintaining data solutions.
• Working with Kafka and data streaming technologies.
• Transforming data.
• Working with Cloud infrastructure (primarily GCP)
• Working in an agile engineering team where you will have the opportunity to influence technology selection.
• Helping to establish good engineering processes within the team including: using infrastructure as code; contributing to automated testing efforts; utilising monitoring and alerting tools; and employing CI/CD best practices to deploy regularly to production.

Is this the job for me?

Across all our teams we have Engineers with varying backgrounds and levels of experience. One key thing that all of our engineers have in common is a desire to develop brilliant, industry redefining products as well as their own skills.

Ideally you will have:

• A proven track record of designing, building, monitoring and managing large-scale data products, pipelines, tooling and platforms.
• Experience working on streaming ETL solutions utilising streaming data processing tools (e.g. Kafka Streams, Kinesis, Spark or similar).
• Experience developing cloud-based solutions on GCP, AWS or Azure using Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
• Excellent knowledge of at least one programming language, we don't care which, within the Data Engineering community here at OVO we primarily use Python & Scala.
• Knowledge of the best engineering practices and continuous delivery.
• An understanding that building quality is essential and you value automation and continuous delivery.
• A love for building scalable, resilient solutions, and you enjoy influencing the team’s technology selection and architectural direction.
• You will be comfortable working in an agile development environment with regular release cycles, and have experience of pair programming, BDD/TDD, CI/CD and deployment strategies.
