PUR is seeking an impact-driven individual to coordinate carbon certifications and offer in LATAM

As part of the Global Carbon team working with the Latam scope (more than 7 countries and 16 projects) , the successful candidate will report to the Global Carbon Lead in Paris and with the support from the LATAM Regional Manager in Bogota.

You will be responsible for preparing, implementing, following-up and monitoring the carbon certification processes (VSC and Gold Standard) for a selection of AFOLU (agroforestry, reforestation) and conservation (REDD+) and other nature based solution projects in the region (more than 7 countries and 16 projects - Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Costa Rica, Mexico,etc. )


The main responsibilities will be, but not limited to:

  • Carbon Certification design and management: Set-up, plan, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of certification activities; Build capacity for the Projects Team in charge of project implementation to ensure that field activities align with carbon requirements; Control the quality of the implementation; Improve proceedings when relevant; Develop and manage certification-related budgets.

  • Training: train local teams and stakeholders to carbon tools and proceedings; and contribute to the improvement of PUR’s educational material for carbon topics.

  • Data quality control: Support and collaborate with Projects Team and Data Team to successfully collect all field data necessary for certification purposes, and regularly control the quality and consistency of the data received.

  • Carbon modelling: Based on research, literature review as well as field measurements, develop the carbon modelling for the projects to be certified.

  • Reporting: Prepare the Project Design Document (PDD) and/or Monitoring Report (MR) to support the validation and verifications by external auditors under relevant carbon standards (VCS and Gold Standard).

  • Stakeholder management: Be the focal point for carbon certification standards and auditors as well as legal advisors and government representatives throughout the certification process.

  • Strategic watch: Keep up to date with international carbon frameworks (Paris Agreement article 6 and NDCs) as well as the legal frameworks of the countries where certification is planned to adapt processes and strategy as needed. Where relevant, consult with government representatives.

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • Master degree in a relevant field with at least 4 years of professional experience in sustainability / forestry or carbon sector, and strong interest / curiosity toward technical and forestry topics.
  • Successful work experience related to carbon quantification and carbon modelling (preferably in AFOLU sector) in LATAM tropical forest context and LATAM countries regulation.
  • Knowledge of carbon certification and voluntary carbon markets (VCS or Gold standard).
  • Knowledge in the use of Excel or other worksheets.
  • Organizational skills, very rigorous and details oriented.
  • Must be fluent in English & Spanish - French or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Legal right to work in Colombia
