Job Description

Context: Neoteric is a start-up but we are not starting from scratch. Since November 2022 we have been managing two large-scale initiatives, with another three in development.  We expect to hire 5 full time employees by Q2 2023 and see steady growth thereafter.  We seek employees committed to addressing the climate crisis, who are highly entrepreneurial, with strong people skills, and an ability to learn new, technical subject matter and speak to it with authority. Our motto is “Getting more done, together” so we only seek employees who love working collaboratively and are focused on implementation over perfection. 

Note: Neoteric takes work/life balance very seriously. Outside of client meetings, we will be as flexible as possible on work hours to meet your particular home life needs. Staff will be expected to work an average of 8 hours/day.  If significant additional hours are worked during particularly busy periods on an exceptional basis, or significant travel is required on an exceptional basis, compensatory time off will be provided.  

 

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:  

This role will have a front seat view of growing a new company in the clean energy and climate space as well as the opportunity to dive into all aspects of managing innovative, impactful clean energy and climate initiatives.  The role will evolve with the individual’s skills and interests as the company grows. 

This role will serve as our first Director of Initiatives, with the following responsibilities:  

  • Act as a deputy to our CEO, with the ability to step-in as needed to temporarily fill-in for her in meetings with clients, when speaking at conferences, etc.  
  • Oversight of 2-4 initiatives, supervising the project manager and broader team; 
  • Management of specific workstreams within initiatives, based on need, interest, and skillset; 
  • Significant stakeholder management and engagement at all levels, from C-Suite executives to academics to environmental non-profit representatives to operations managers in logistics companies;  
  • Contribute substantively or logistically to any/all of our initiatives based on expertise and bandwidth  

(Note: Neoteric is a flat organization, where all are called upon to contribute to development of briefing materials, organization of meetings, etc., regardless of level of seniority.) 

 

Please see the  Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance and the Advanced and Indirect Mitigation Platform for more information on our first two initiatives.  Other near-term initiatives will focus on agricultural  methane, decarbonization of off-grid power generation, decarbonization of heavy-duty trucking, and decarbonization of mining. Candidates will be considered based on the general skillset listed below as well as their substantive knowledge of and experience in any of the key sectors of our work.  

 

Skills and Qualifications:  

Required:  

  • Strong commitment to and enthusiasm for addressing the climate crisis 
  • At least 8 total years of work experience, including:  
    • At least 5 years work experience in the fields of climate change, clean energy, and/or sustainability and 
    • At least 2 years work experience in management consulting or an equivalent project manager role 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills 
  • Be able to work equally well in teams on collaborative projects AND as a self-starting, individual contribut0r 
  • One or more of the following: 
  • Experience working with corporate GHG accounting, target-setting and reporting frameworks including the GHG Protocol, CDP, and Science Based Targets Initiative, ideally: 
    • Experience developing corporate GHG inventories and reporting against climate targets and/or 
    • Extensive experience with scope 3 emissions accounting, reporting or claiming as well as supplier engagement/procurement approaches to address corporate scope 3 emissions   
  • Experience working with or in environmental markets or environmental attribute certificates, e.g. carbon offsets or renewable energy certificates (RECs) 
  • Experience supporting or managing corporate procurement processes or supply chain systems 
  • Experience working with or advising on alternative fuels projects, e.g. green hydrogen, green ammonia, or biofuels 

 

Nice to have:  

  • JD degree 
  • Proficiency in excel-based modeling (other modeling experience very welcome) 
  • Proficiency in visual analytics platforms like Tableau 

 

Salary and Benefits:  

  • Starting salary: 150k+ year, dependent on experience and qualifications 
  • Potential for 15%+ year-end bonus
  • 100% health insurance for employees, 50% paid for all dependents 
  • 6% matching 401K
  • 15 days paid vacation per year
  • Paid day off for all US Federal holidays, the day after Thanksgiving and the week between Christmas and New Years 
  • Unlimited sick days (doctors notice required in extreme situations) 
  • 2 months paid parental leave and option for part-time work schedule up to 4 additional months

  • Max 25% time: Serve as our in-house legal counsel, reviewing basic business contracts as well as procurement documents (i.e. requests for proposals) being issued through Neoteric-managed initatives  
  • Min 75% time: Serve as our first Director of Initiatives, effectively acting as a deputy and regularly stand-in for our Founder and CEO, with specific oversight of at least two of our ongoing initiatives Contribute substantively or logistically to any/all of our initiatives based on expertise and bandwidth.   • Experience reviewing client and/or employment contracts, partnership agreements, procurement documents, etc, in a legal capacity  
  • Strong written and oral communication skills  
  • Be able to work equally well in teams on collaborative projects AND as a self-starting, individual contribut0r 

 

One or more of the following preferred:  

  • Experience working with or advising on alternative fuels projects, e.g. green hydrogen, green ammonia, or biofuels
