ROLE TITLE: HIGH VOLTAGE BATTERY ENGINEER

 

REPORTING LINE: The High Voltage Battery Engineer will report to the Director of Technical Operations for Energy Solutions.

 

DEPARTMENTAL OVERVIEW:

Energy Solutions is a sub-systems solutions arm of Artemis Technologies, responsible for the delivery of Marine lithium-Ion battery and High-Power Charging systems. The group is growing its presence within the business and building on the technology modules developed in our vessel programmes, furthering development for the wider marine market.

 

THE ROLE:

Responsible for the design and development of ATL in-house propulsion battery systems including vessel integration. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

  • Responsible for the electromechanical design and on time delivery of 800V DC battery pack products.
  • Deriving Mechanical, Electrical & Hardware Sub-System/Component requirements for design realisation or for COTS hardware requirements specification.
  • Integration of Lithium-Ion battery modules, working closely with critical suppliers to meet strict physical and functional integration requirements.
  • Supporting LV and HV internal harnessing and connectivity strategy.
  • Support the implementation of the battery system safety concept.
  • Developing innovative busbar and electrical distribution concepts for high-voltage batteries, in line with international normative standards.
  • Deriving Mechanical/Electrical/Hardware Requirements and verifying they are satisfied by electromechanical design.
  • Integration of Fuses, switchgear, LV hardware and Battery Management System hardware.
  • Supporting in the development and refinement of the thermal management strategy for the battery modules and co-ordinating appropriate CAE activities where required.
  • Supporting in electromechanical system calculations and utilising first principals’ approach to problem resolution.
  • Authoring technical documentation as required (test reports, user manuals, hardware manuals etc.).
  • Contributing and leading Robustness Analysis (DFMEA, FTA’s) as required throughout the development program.
  • Support the product Integration & Test programs as required.
  • Providing support to the Aftersales team in identifying issues and find resolutions (root cause analysis, 8D’s).
  • Introducing new technology to ATL where appropriate.
  • Attend team and 1-1 meetings and fulfil reporting requirements as required by Artemis Technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with Artemis Technologies Policies and Procedures.
  • Build good working relationships across Artemis Technologies.
  • Contribute to shaping a culture that reflects Artemis Technologies Values and Behaviours and enables the company to achieve its goals.

 

PERSON SPECIFACTION:

Education/Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Holder of Bachelor (BSc /BEng) degree in a relevant engineering discipline (Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering).
  • 5+ years working in automotive, marine or industrial sectors within a complex regulatory framework. Experience with Lithium-Ion HV battery system design.  

 

Key Skills Required:

Technical/Design Skills:

  • Systems thinking and experience working with requirements management & management tools (Jama Connect).
  • Electromechanical design acumen and strong knowledge/understanding of electrical product design and best practices.
  • Experience with 3D modelling and PLM (CATIA V5, 3DX, PTC Creo).
  • Knowledge of safe working practices, standard and legislative requirements for LV DC Systems (60-1500VDC).
  • Knowledge of product lifecycle management from concept through to production.

 

Communication Skills:

  • Good report writing skills – clear, concise, and well structured.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

 

Organising Skills:

  • Ability to coordinate with other departments and flag issues.
  • A focus on ‘delivery’ to an agreed schedule.

 

Teamworking Skills:

  • Ability to relate well to others, and build co-operative and collaborative working relationships, both internally and externally.
